We just bought our first RV!!  Yippeee!!!

We want to go to Canada with our doggies and cat.  What do we need to do?

The CA websites have great info and by following them we had no problems. We were asked at every crossing for the paperwork so be prepared. It was not a problem, they just wanted to check. Have fun.

Good link. I notice that there are limits on pet food brought in, including that it must be made in the US and commercially packaged. We dump Gordon's food from the bag into popcorn tins so I guess we'd need to keep it in the bag and dump in the tins when we got into Canada.

Came back to U.S. today.  No paperwork asked for. But asked if shots were up to date. No questions about dog food.
Questions asked, what they want to see as well as what they do (searches, etc.) is very inconsistent for either direction.

The only consistent things seem to be Canada asking questions about guns, where you're going and how long you plan on staying in Canada.

However, we've always found it's more hassle to get back into the USA than to get into Canada.

The dog food rules were for going into Canada. Don't know if they care coming into US.

When we returned to the US in 2006, the agent was going to confiscate the dog food in a plastic container until I showed her the Iams bag in the bay.  But she also took our beef pot pies but didn't say a word about the steaks in zip lock bags :)

So dog food going either direction, have the bag. And don't take pot pies. Got it :)

We figured they were tired of the chicken and saw the beef as a welcome change.

Late to the party again but..... You need up to date rabies certificates or medallions for your pets over 6 mos. old to enter Canada. They may not be asked for but if they are, you can be up the creek without them..... As a Canuck, never been asked when southbound. Pet food questions when southbound have been asked or ignored, quite possibly  in conjunction with the current mad cow or other disease scare. Even vet supplied canned food clearly marked made in USA was questioned one time.  People food seems to be much the same except for citrus fruit which is verbotten at any time as well as perhaps some others plant type foods too, when crossing into the USA
