Hiya all!

Hope your winter RVing is going as well as ours! The further west we get the more RVs we see and we can't help but wonder if any of them are forum folks.

We are meeting up with the family in Phoenix tomorrow for a 5 day late holiday visit. As this is a long time for us to sit and "catch up" and most of them have not had the joys of experiencing RVing....we were thinking of taking the clan in the rv on a day trip somewhere outside the city. Nothing too far or treacherous of driving terrain and nothing terribly expensive as it will be our treat and there will be 5 adults and 2 kids in addition to us riding in the guts of our old gal. Was hoping some of you may have some ideas for a 1-2 hour drive outside of Phoenix that would be a nice "keep the family busy" kind of trip. Thanks in advance for the help! See you on the open road!

You could take your family to Usery County Park.  Here is the website:  http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/usery/
It is actually a campground, but they have a visitor's center where you can park the rig.  Also they have lots going on.  It an area that is on the migrant bird flight patterns, so lots of birds in the area.  They also have some great easy hikes and ranger talks.  You should be able to find that info on the web page.

Also, there is the Organ Stop pizza place in Mesa, AZ which is very interesting, good pizza and a organ performance which is fun.  Here is their website:  http://www.organstoppizza.com/

There is also Tortilla Flats outside of Apache Junction.  Here is their website:  http://www.tortillaflataz.com/  The road going up to the restaurant is fine, but don't take the RV any further.  It's all dirt and difficult.

Have fun.  We are heading to Apache Junction in February.

Old Tucson is at your two hour limit. It is a film set where many westerns were filmed. All of the town scenes in "High Chapparal" were filmed there
Over 300 movies and tv series were filmed there since 1939and still in use.

And near old Tucson is Sagauro National Park, worth seeing.

NE of Phx, McDowell Mountain Park has lots of hiking. And there's a very cool fountain in Fountain hills. Tons of Geocaching in the area which kids love.

In Tucson take a nice drive up to Mount Lemon for stunning views of the surrounding mountains with glorious vistas of the area, then go and have a nice lunch at the Iron Door - just remember, not open on Mondays.

Sabino Canyon is another nice place to visit. Take the tram ride up and hike down, if you so wish. Arizona is a State of great beauty, with lots to explore and do.

do NOT take your rv up the My Lemmon road! far too many curves and grades for an rv.
please see this site: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coronado/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=74395&actid=29

22' length restrictions for rv's.
