Interesting Routes from Crater Lake to Yellowstone

I am travelling to Seattle in June and want to take in Crater Lake & Yellowstone, the problem is I can find a good route south to Crater Lake, along the 101 is my preference as last year I took this road from LA to San Francisco, but when I try to plan a route from Crater to Yellowstone it just looks like a long drive without much on route.
Does anybody know of any good routes between the two or places worth visiting on route?

Probably need to define the "highway hula" you want to do between the two points, but we have been through and stayed in the Bend - Three Sisters area, the Caldwell, ID area, the Twin Falls area, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, and West Yellowstone.

Depends on what melts your butter, but we found all kinds of interesting things from a potato musuem, to a P-40 Warhawks museum, to casinos, to trout fishing, to kayaking, to a bear and wolf exhibit. It's a target rich environment from my point of view.  8)
 
Instead of 101 try 97 south hop up to Crater Lake IF it is open.  From there south on 97 to K Falls and head east toward Lakeview 395 north to 20 to the OR/ID border.  From there there is a couple of options.  I84 thru ID is probably the fastest.
 
Originally I was looking at the 97 then all the way along the 20 through Boise and any major road from there.

Looking again, I might head for Bend then go along the 26 stopping at the John Day Fossil beds, then at Boise I might head up the 21 into the Sawtooth areas picking up the Ghost Town on route, this looks a bit more interesting.
 
This past summer we left Yellowstone and headed to La Pine, OR, not too far from Crater Lake. We went up 287 to I-90 then at Missoula we took Hwy 12 which was beautiful. Crossed Idaho and visited the Washington tri-cities area. Followed the Columbia River on the north side the. Took Hwy 97 south. Had a lovely time.

Ordinarily, we drive Hwy 20 across Oregon (faster but not very exciting) or take Hwy 26 which is more scenic. Stops at John Day Fossil Beds Nat Mon and Kam Wah Chung SP are worthwhile stops.

I know that Oregon hasn't had a lot of snow this year but, Crater Lake can be pretty snowy up until mid July. I've taken photos with a wall of about ten feet of snow!! They have to get it plowed out so you can move around. Call ahead and find out the conditions before you travel. Crater Lake is beautiful and everyone should have that on their list of things to see while RV'n. Have fun!
 
I have had a rethink and these are two possible routes I am thinking of, could you tell me what's god/bad about each one or if there are places that I shouldn't worry about seeing and, if so, may be some alternatives.

We are flying in on 19th June to Seattle and fly out on 6th July, so it would be about 16 possible travelling days.

Option 1:
Seattle, Mt Rainier National Park, Mt St Helens, John Day Fossil Beds, Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP, North Cascades NP and back to Seattle.

Option 2:
Seattle, Forks, Astoria, Mt St Helens, Crater Lake, Yellowstone NP back to Seattle.
