Allied Specialty Vehicles, manufacturers of the Fleetwood, Amercan Coach, Monaco and Holiday Rambler product families, has announced they are closing down their towable (trailer) product lines. This affects Holiday Rambler, R-Vision and Trail Lite trailers. The trailer divisions have not been sold and all production has ceased.

Peter Guile, ASV president and CEO, stated: ”With the strong growth of motorized RV and improved conditions in our other markets, ASV has decided to focus its resources and efforts on capturing that growth.”

Thor Motorhomes has bought the former Monaco Towables facility in Elkhart from ASV. Equally of interest, they also bought the rights to the towable brands, including such well-known names as Presidential, Alumalite, Alumascape, R-Vision, and Trail-light.

Thor says their primary goal was to gain more manufacturing space for their booming motorhome lines and made no announcement about plans for future towables. If any.

OK, I'm lost. I thought that Thor bought the Monaco Wakarusa plant from AVS last year to get access to the 35 some paint booths and for space for their growing motorhome division. This plant is over a million SQFT. Thor must have decided to keep their motorhome production all in Elkhart. Other than the paint booths, I wonder what they are doing in Wakarusa.

After shutting down the Monaco towables business, ASV sold the factory to Thor, apparently lock, stock & barrel. Thor is now auctioning off the inventory, including partially built trailers and components. For the full story, see http://www.rvbusiness.com/2014/03/thor-auctioning-monaco-rv-towable-inventory-2/
