I am very proud to say that we are getting a 2008 Tahoe with 100,000 miles on it,  but is in awesome shape.  The mechanic that looked at it said it had the Tranny cooler on it and it is rated at GVWR 7100.    Oh and also its says GAWR FRT 3200lbs  and GAWR RR 4100lbs  What does that mean?

Does that mean it is the HD package?  That is kinda confusing.

Sooooo anyway,, Can you guys give me your best advise on the limits on a trailer we could tow with that?    Length and weight?  What would be the max and what would be a good medium?  Don't plan on to many hills but maybe once in a while up to TN.
Thanks sooo much for all of your help.

Congrats on the new vehicle. You will find these definitions in the Glossary as well:
  • GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating - the most the vehicle can weigh loaded with passengers & cargo (including the hitch itself and the tongue weight of the trailer).
  • GAWR - Gross Axle Weight Rating (front and rear) - the most weight that can be placed on either axle. A nose-heavy trailer, while within the towing specs, can sometimes overload the rear axle.

In addition to these figures, there is:
  • The max tow rating (in the manual if you got one - if not, a good source is the Trailer Life website). This is the maximum weight trailer you can tow.
  • GCWR - Gross Combined Weight Rating - the most that the SUV and trailer can weigh together (this will be in the manual as well as on the door sticker).

The heaviest trailer you can tow is the lesser of the max tow rating or the difference of the GCWR and the actual SUV when loaded for travel. When shopping for a trailer, focus on the GVWR of the trailer, not the "dry" weight.
