1985 Minnie Winnie 26 Ford E350 Wont start
« on: March 19, 2014, 08:40:00 PM »
My Dad's 1985 Minnie Winnie E350 has not been ran for almost a year since he got sick and passed.

I am tempted to take it and use it. Over the last few days I have been trying to get it running and cleaned up. Charged the battery and tried to start but wont fire up.

Putting fuel in the carb makes it attempt to start but seems its not getting fuel. half a tank of fuel in the tank.

Unhooked the line before the fuel filter that is along the driver side of the frame, and tried to see if the pump is pumping anything, nothing.

Seems next I am going to drop the tank and replace the pump.

Am I way off on my next step or did I miss anything else I should check?

Thanks,
BK

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction. Before you pull the tank, make sure power is getting to the pump.

You sure it has a in tank pump?  It may not have an electric pump. Pull the suction side of the line off the pump to see if you can draw gas out of the tank.

If you drop that tank you might find you need a new one being that old.  Follow the gas line and make sure there is not a mechanical fuel pump first.  My 85 Ford E250 had a mechanical fuel pump on the bottom of the 302 engine.  Easy to replace.  It also had two fuel tanks with a switch under the dash to select tanks.

It also had a small fuel filter going into the carb housing that had to be replaced once a season as it was very small and clogged easily. It was a PIA to change and the threads were wearing out and not that tight.  I put an in line filter under the engine after the fuel pump to solve that problem.

Had someone drop the tank for me. Now looking for a fuel pump assembly and sending unit. Already had the tank refurbished.
