My 150 psi portable air compressor from Harbor Freight died after 5 yrs. Want to get a replacement (their item # 69285) at $59.95 but was wondering if there is a better tankless compressor somewhere out there. Use it to adjust tire pressures, not air them up all the way. Highest pressure are the 5er tires that I keep at  95 psi.

I bought one of these about 2 years ago, and while more expensive, it's been an excellent compressor for all my needs, including airing up my motorhome tires to 95psi.

Oh, OK. My minitor is dying and I can hardly tell the diff between colors. Thanks.

Porter cable is nice but bigger than I want and has a tank. The one at Harbor Freight has no tank and is 150 psi too.

It is bigger, but you'll have an excuse to buy air tools, like hammers and impact wrenches. Trust me when you use a finish air hammer, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it!

If you don't carry a generator, you will want a 12v model. The best of them are made for 4WD offroading and get a bit pricey, but they last well and can pump up anything.

Sears Craftsman has a couple of nice ones - see http://www.craftsman.com/search=Craftsman%2012%20volt%20Air%20Compressor%20Inflator%20Rechargeable%20Cordless

Amazon has a good selection in various price ranges too:

I just picked one up at Costco.  Haven't tried it yet, but with Costco's return policy if I don't like it, back it goes.  And I think it was under $30.00

Think I'll go for the Harbor Freight one. Same basic machinery as the Viair 300. Big difference is in the air chucks. I'll forgo the Viair luxury and save a few bucks.

Thanks you guys for the input.

About 10 years ago, CARQUEST had these MasterFlow 1050 compressors on a Christmas special for $25/each. I bought them out and gave them to my friends for Christmas.

They're awesome.

I'd put them against everything but the Viair, and dollar for dollar, IMHO they win there, too.

Looking at a Viair right now.  i think i would be using it off the truck the most but it would be nice to have in the trailer.

Wish I had seen this before I got the Harbor Freight model. This one obviously is no longer $25 but is only a little more than Harbor Freight's and it is available at Northern Tool.

Would any of you say this is the type of compressor that would be appropriate for blowing water out of the tubes to winterize my motor coach???

THANKS GUYS (gals?),

Bruce

Not sure which "type" you mean.  You need a compressor that can move about 3 cfm (cubic feet per minute) of air at a low pressure. 25 psi is plenty as long as the volume is OK. Most small 12v compressors can produce lots of pressure (it's cheap and easy to do) but not much volume (cfm). If you can't find a cfm spec for the compressor, don't buy it. You will almost surely be disappointed if you do.
