We are looking to upgrade from our Fleetwood gas 34'. We like that size as it can go many places the larger rigs can't. Can anyone recommend a good diesel around 34' that won't cost us a fortune. Lol thanks!

Hi Unlvrn... welcome to the forum. That's a pretty subjective and wide-open question. A "fortune" to one person may be chump-change to another, and the age and condition of an RV will have a lot to do with its purchase price and DOC (Direct Operating Cost). Help us out by being a bit more specific.

Winnebago made the Journey diesel pusher in a 32 foot size for several years but they are hard to find on the used market. In new ones, there are 34 foot Winnie Forzas and Itasca Soleils.

Tiffin offers the Allegro Breeze DP in 28 and 32 foot lengths.  Also a 33 and a 34 foot diesel in the Open Road "Allegro Red' line.

Country Coach and Alpine also made a coach in that length, but can also be hard to find.

Winnebago also makes the Journey 34y which is now about 35 feet overall. When we were looking for ours (2012) I found several in the $120K area for 2008+/-. These should be under $100K nowadays.  We love ours, but YMMV

We bought a 2005 Winnebago Journey 34H three years ago.  We paid 75k plus tax and license.  We honestly didn't realize what a great deal that was, but it really was.  We love our coach and find the size to be perfect, as is the floorplan (for us).  They do seem to be a little hard to find, but worth the wait. Steve, that was indeed a great price three years ago, as many are still going for near that today.

I've seen claims of 14 mpg with the Breeze.  Does anyone have any first hand reports of mileage with the Breeze?

A 2014 Tiffin Breeze 32BR can be had for 150K or less depending on the dealer.  My friend has a 2013 and loves it.  The 2014 has been upgraded to independent front suspension...a real plus according to him as his is a solid axel and he would have waited to buy,  but did not know of the upgrade until it was too late.

George,

What kind of fuel mileage does your friend get with his Breeze, and does he tow a car? I'm looking at a 2014 32BR.

I've seen claims of 14 mpg with the Breeze.

Even Tiffin's sales brochure won't make that claim!  It's a 23,500 lb coach with a 240 hp engine, so 8-10 mpg would be the norm.  It may hit 14 at times, maybe even for an hour or two when cruising in ideal conditions, but your expectations should be much, much lower.

my monaco 36' 8.3c Cummins 250hp turned up to 305 on a Dyno. 10mpg avg from Fl to NV (2700 mi) this summer. It's a 22500lb coach

Sitting Disney FW and then doing some slide work at the house.

We bought a 2005 36' Country Coach Inspire for less than $100,000.00 in October of 2013.  Love it so far and had the floor plan we wanted and 4 slides. Just do not get in a hurry as I think you are looking at the right size for a first time buy.

Having lived with a Fleetwood Bounder 34H (35'5") I would not hesitate to go with a 38 foot coach.

The 34H is one of the few short FW coaches with 3 slides.  They make the same floor plan in the Excursion as well.  It looks like the stopped making them after 2008.
