6 month exstention to visa
« on: July 19, 2014, 03:14:14 PM »
We are now in America with our new RV, We left England in June. Can any one give advice on extending our 6 month visa. We have been told by many people that it is not safe driving into Mexico. Maybe we should fly in? and do we need a visa to get into Mexico, and how do they extend the visa when we return to America. Its such a lovely country we would love to say longer. Any help would be great fully received.

Susan, welcome to the USA. You have a few options for extending your stay:

1. Drive or fly into Canada or Mexico, stay a few weeks and return to the USA. On re-entry, you'll re-start the clock on a new visit. See this message.

2. File a form I-539 without needing to leave the USA. See this USCIS page for details.

You won't need a visa to enter Mexico.

You will get many pros and cons about this, however the U.S. State Dept. does not recommend travel to Mexico.  In years past we went often but no longer travel there.  The "bad guys" really do not care where they shoot so long as they are intimidating people in the vicinity.
