I just discovered this.  If your PC uses Windows 7 and you have a Verizon Pantech UML290 modem you can plug it into the USB port on your PC and you do NOT have to use the Verizon Access Manager software to be connected to Verizon's 3G/4G network.  Windows 7 can do it directly as if it were any regular WiFi network.  I'll guess Windows 8 can do this too.

Your UML290 modem must have software version xxxx.248 installed.  You probably do have xxxx.248 in it so just plug it in and try it.

I have been told that the newer Pantech UML 295 will also do this.

If the computer also has a WiFi adapter, you could use Internet Connection Sharing to turn the computer into an access point and share the Verizon internet connection with other computers.
