We finally got a chance to take our new 2015 View Profile 24V out for the first trip. Everything went smoothly and we had a good time. The View ran perfectly and it towed our Subaru without any problems. We had some good hills to pull plus testing it out going down the other side also. We got a high of 15 MPG going from our house to the first night camping and we pulled the Boston Mountains with that tank. They are not the mountains like in the west (My wife is a Colorado native and I lived there for 27 years so we do know what mountains are) but these have some good pulls on them to test out a rig.

After that the MPG dropped due to head winds and a lot of secondary roads with steep hills and sharp turns so couldn't keep speed up had to slow down as you are climbing the hills. The little 3.0 diesel still churned along great though and the lowest gear I had to hit was 3rd and I was down to about 50MPH. Still we got between 12.8 and 13.7 the rest of the trip. I feel that the little rig did pretty good and other than when we had the strong winds and gusts it handled great, better than any of my other MHs.

I tried attaching a picture of our rig with our toad but I don't know if I did it right or not. Every forum has a different way of doing it but here goes

ON EDIT: How about that it appears that I did it right.

Nice rig and nice test - that is a beautiful rig and should give you tons of pleasure - welcome aboard and we look forward to hearing about more of your adventures....have a problem, let us know this is a great place for answers...

Safe Travels,

Jim

The Subaru weighs just under 3100#

NO WAY am I going to change the color. Heh Heh I had to order it to get a manual trans and that is the color that I wanted on it.

Now I might change the MH color to match the car. ;D  ;D  Not really I'm happy with the way both are.

I'm jealous  :)

My brand new 2015 View is still in the shop.  :(

See my post under "Just got a 2015 View profile 24G"

Great rig.  I don't own anything now and have been looking at models like this, tT and 5th wheel.  I like the idea of having a compact unit since it is me and maybe one other adult.  Did you do any, I think they call it boondocking?  How was't it?

Do you have any problems with the overhang from the back wheels to the bumper?

Be safe, John

Don,

I read your posts on your problems you are having. I hope they get you fixed up and back on the road so you an enjoy your rig. We are thinking of taking it and heading south for a few weeks in December. We will be taking the Jeep to VA for Thanksgiving to be with our kids but we don't travel there for Christmas with them anymore.

Good Luck,

Butch

John,

When we bought our rig on the way home with it we spent a night in it in a casino parking lot. Talked to security if it would be ok and they told us sure have a good evening. It was hot out as it was August in Texas. We fired up the generator and turned on the a/c and were comfortable. After cooling the rig down I shut the generator off and opened the windows and we were fine for the rest of the night. I searched till I found a  View with the diesel generator option. This way I don't have to worry about running out of propane. When the generator is at 1/2 load it uses around .25 gallons of diesel. It shuts down when the tank is about 1/4 left. So with a 26 gallon full tank I figure I can get about 78 hrs. of continuous running time before it would shut down from lack of fuel to the generator and I would still have 1/4 tank left to drive the MH to get more fuel. I don't ever plan on running it that long at any one time especially if I was boondocking as I would not want to listen to any generator for that long.

I have never had a problem hitting anything coming out of parking lots, fuel stations. To the center of our receiver in the MH it is 24" off the ground. So as you can see it would take quite  dip or rise for us to hit anything with it. I don't think most MHs rears are this high off the ground. I installed Sumo Springs on the rear and I think this might have raised it a little but not to much. I forgot to get a measurement before I installed them. My Subaru is pretty high off the ground and I am putting a 2" drop receiver on the MH to get the tow bar a little leveler between them. Right now the drop is about 3.5" so after dropping the hitch 2" they should be about 1.5" difference.

Butch

Thanks for everyone's comments I'm pretty happy with the way everything work and we can't wait to get out some more with it.

Hi Butch,
If you make it as far south as FL, post here.
I would like to look at your tow setup.

Can you list your tow package parts?

Don,

I have the following

Buddy Brake Stealth brake
Roadmaster base plate
Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar.
Roadmaster Guardian Rock Shield
Roadmaster Guardian Stowaway this is a bracket that is on the tow bar and it stows the Guardian Rock Shield when you disconnect the toad to use it.

Then for lights I went with a removable light bar for turn and stop lights. It is a Tow Mate and is a wireless unit. You plug the transmitter into the 7 pin connector and it transmits the signal to the bar on the toad. Works pretty slick and was surprised that it is made right here in Rogers, AR which is the town that is across the freeway from Bentonville where we live.

I just installed a Roadmaster drop receiver. It dropped it 2" so it should make the tow bar almost level with the vehicle and MH.

I don't know which way we are going when we head south. We have talked about going to FL or to AZ but all I know is I want out of this ice box temperatures we are having presently. It is just plain silly that we are that cold already  and they are talking possibility of snow for this weekend for us.

What batteries did you use in the light bar, how long do they last and how do you recharge them?

The light bar has a cord that plugs into a power point. I just run it through the rear door. There is no battery. I have a charge line coming from the MH so I'm not worried about running down the battery in the car.

Butch,
Thanks for posting your toad setup.
That is our next plan.
Got our rig back Saturday.
Can't wait to go camping!!
