What do they do at these rally's?

Western Area FMCA rally at Indio (and most FMCA regional rallies) have the following activities:

RV related seminars
New Coach displays
Usually some RV service provided by vendors
Vendor display - selling RV and non-RV irems
3 Nights of entertainment

Mike, you just have to do whatever it take's to move your retirement up.

Chrystal and I are working on it Gary, but we are still at least 9 years or so if away if everything works out.  We are dumping as much as possible into our portfolio and God willing we should be able to have our coach paid off by mid-2015 sometime so there is a bunch more each month going in.

Chrystal and I think about retirement a lot but on the flip side, don't want to wish our lives away.  We look forward to it but are grateful we are able to do so much traveling now.

We just wish we could see our many friends more frequently at these rallies and gatherings.

Mike, this is a very healthy attitude and reflects how Jerry and I felt during our working years.  We were so fortunate to be able to combine work with pleasure and traveled to all the continents except Antarctica.  We also made the best of those free weekends and went whenever and wherever we could.  That's why we got our first motorhome in 1972 and have had one continually since then.  Sometimes it sat in the driveway for months and once for an entire year because we didn't have time to use it, but we got back to it as soon as we could.

We went on our first cruise about 1970 and met a lovely older lady who was traveling with her niece.  It seems she and her husband had dreamed of taking a cruise when he retired.  Well, he retired and died a few months later.  She brought her niece in his place.  Her comment to us was "You're smart to enjoy your traveling now while you're young enough to enjoy it; we waited too long."  Such a shame to dream and never fulfill it!

Thanks Ardra, that is good advice.

I remember when Chrystal and I were waffling on the purchase of our second motorhome.  It was our first DP and quite a step up in cost from our first one.  We had been looking off and on for about six months and were really uncertain about it.  While we were sitting there contemplating it we looked on the wall behind the guys desk where we were sitting and he had a plaque with a saying on it that really hit both of us hard.  It said "If you have waited until retirement to enjoy life, you have waited too long".

We have tried to be conservative in our life together but continually reflect back on that afternoon and that plaque that said it all.  My dad was one of those people who worked his entire life and when it was time for him to enjoy his retirement, never made it.

Lou,

I'll let you know if anything is planned ahead of time, but this "rally" is not organized in anyway. Since only 2 of us going into general parking there may not be happy hours. Most of the people going to Indio are staying at Indian Waters RV Park - not at the convention site.

Gary,

There will be plenty of parking at the rally site. The folks staying at Indian Waters wanted full hookups and at the rally site its either no hookups or you can opt for 30amp power.

We will be parked at the rally site with 30amp power.  Unfortunately the only way to park together is to arrived together. We will be at the rally early Monday morning.

We will post our location once parked.

Hope to see you at the rally.

Any others in area are free to join us. Just let us know so we have an idea of how many.  We will drive into the rally on Monday.

Maria just checked the fair grounds web site and they say pets are not allowed.  Also, there are a few rules and additional charges with respect to toads, in and out restrictions and fees for shuttles.  Perhaps the FMCA is not subject to the general fairground rules in which case, we shall see you tomorrow afternoon.  Otherwise I'm inclined to go to a private park and just drive in for a day.   Anyone, please let me know what the program is.  If the furbies don't go, we don't go.   :)

Gary, It has been a long standing  rule that pets are not allowed in the display and seminar buildings and coach sale areas.  However there are lots  of pets in the  general parking areas living in the  motorhomes with their  owners.   Pets must be leashed and picked up after.

There is  no extra fees for  shuttles, nor is there any extra fee  for in and out of grounds.  I've been in and out several times today with our car.  We  are in the Blue lot row 1.  Our coach is parked next to ( parallel to )  Arabia Street. Activities are close enough that we choose to walk to all  events.  Still have not gotten my  10,000 steps today.

We will  go to  Bingo tomorrow night (at 6) hoping to be big winners! Let us know where they  park you.

I've walked all over the place with Gordon today and in past years. If they said no fur babies, half the coaches would have to leave.

Come on in. The fun is just beginning.

Bernie,

Sorry you couldn't make it to Palm Desert. AND more importantly I hope you are doing OK with the heart issue.

We are staying in Indio an extra week to get a hydraulic slide pump replaced.

I'm sure there will be a get together at HT sometime this spring.

I had planned to come out there yesterday.  Unfortunately some work problems came up and I won't make it this year.   :(

Will do Gary!

Happy Hours have been hard to coordinate.  Those of us staying at the Rally site have been  really really tied up with  vendors giving bids for things I had no idea we even needed. They can only do this after their booths close so....... It will be a contest to see who ends  up spending  most  at this rally.
The  magician/comedian last night was the best I'v ever seen.  He entertained us one and a half hours with no bad words, nothing vulgar, no political issues and we were laughing all the time!   He kidded  one contestant who came to stage.  Said "I notice you are wearing a name tag, well I don't because I can remember my name!"

He had some  2 ply jokes and lots of  magic tricks with a  hint of humor.  The group tonight is an Eagles  group.  I may know all the words to all the songs!

The Valley Sanitation District has a dump station across business I-10 on Van Buren St.  It's only 2+ miles from here.  Does anyone know if they're open tomorrow?  If not, any other dump stations in the area?

Gary,

The Sanidumps website say they are open Monday-Friday.
Love's Truckstop (Dillion RD just north of I-10) is listed as having a dump station but I haven't checked it out. fee listed is $10
Indian Water's CG is listed. It's on Jackson just south of 48th Ave Dr Carreon Blvd.  I don't know the fee.
Contact them at:

Thanks Ken,

After I posted Betty told us there are two on site.

We're going to stay another day since we need a good Internet connection for some e-business.   If the on-site dump stations not open I'll head over to the Valley Sanitation dump station tomorrow.

We use the Sanitation District one all the time, easy in & out, closed on Sunday. You can also look around the fairgrounds, there a number of places you can dump.

We wiggled out of our site this morning, earlier than Terry wanted but we had plans to attend the FMCA 4 Wheeling rally in Yuma and registration was at 2 pm.  Sadly the ladies Mall Crawl was full by the time I signed up.  So we saved some dollars and I saved some calories.
The entertainment at this FMCA rally was the best I have seen in years.

Thanks for the update Betty.  Chrystal and I really tried to juggle our schedules to attend the FMCA 4-Wheeler's Yuma rally but I had a couple of major projects as work coming to a close and couldn't get away.  We are planning on the St. George rally though but I haven't seen a sign-up yet on the 4-wheelers website.  I think I just may make our reservations and then RSVP once it hits the website.  Hopefully they won't change the RV Park on us.

We pull out of Indio FMCA just before noon. After a long grueling drive of about 1 mile we pulled into Indian Waters RV Park. Most of the forum folks who were here during the Rally had left, but after parking I looked across the street to see Ray and Liza. We had a nice small happy hour in their coach later. Ray and Liza are leaving today but we will spend 6 or 7 days here.
We are waiting for the replacement Hydraulic slide Motor/controller/pump/tank assembly should arrive Thursday. The mobile tech in our park (Happy Trails) refused to work with my extended warranty company. He said it would take multiple trips including a visit by an inspector and then days of waiting before they would approve anything and he just wouldn't work with them even if I paid the additional expense. Bob Vinson here in Indio looked at the problem, called Lippert (who took all day to get him the correct info) and in one quick call had the approval for the repair (over 2K). Bob Vinson, RCV Custom Coach Service, works here in the Winter and in Junction City, OR in the Summer.
