I just got back from visiting the parents in Mesa Arizona recently.
It's a very nice and common snow-birding location, probably a bit to touristy for my liking, but it does have some really beautiful
desert scenes nearby...

Apache trail road heading East.
 
I love driving the Apache Trail.  Believe it or not, I met a guy townig a long TT on that once in a very bad spot.  I still have scratches on my truck from trying to pull over far enough that he could get by without going over the cliff.
 
Beautiful shots. We love the desert and need to spend more time there.
