Whitefish Points Bird Observatory annual Spring Fling event is from April 24th - 26th.  As many know this year there is a 100 year (?) record of Snowy Owls in the North East.  Instead of hundreds of them there are thousands.

Keynote speaker is Scott Weidensaul.  Scott is the author of more than two dozen books on natural history, including the Pulitzer Prize finalist "Living on the Wind," which focuses on bird migration, as well as "Return to Wild America" and "The First Frontier." His newest book, set for publication in 2015, is the "Peterson Reference Guide to Owls of North America and the Caribbean."  Scott is a contributing editor for Audubon and writes for a variety of other publications; he lives in the mountains of eastern Pennsylvania, where he studies the migration of owls and hummingbirds.

Here is some info on the event: http://www.wpbo.org/node/315

Here is a recent National Wildlife article published by Scott: http://www.nwf.org/news-and-magazines/national-wildlife/birds/archives/2015/snowy-owls.aspx

If any one comes by say hi.  Maybe that would count as a micro-mini-rally.

We will be staying at Tahquamenon Falls State Park. Target is to get there Thursday afternoon and have supper at the Upper Falls brewery. http://www.tahquamenonfallsbrewery.com/

CBS news film from late last fall during freeze up.

Because of the heavy ice at the east end of Lake Superior the Canadians are bring in their Arctic ice breaker Radisson (2x the power of the two American breakers working the area).  Her winter home port is Quebec City.
