New to full time RVing and looking  for a place to spend the winter of 2016. Hope to find a place where you don't have to keep the furnace running constantly. I have heard Az is nice, but not sure if you need to keep the heat on all the time. Can any of you veteran full timers recommend a few nice places to stay. Thanks and safe travels.

We enjoy the Yuma to Quartzite area and over into southern CA to the Salton Sea and Joshua Tree area.  Plenty of free or very reasonable camping and loads to do.  And warm almost every day.

Arizona has two zones - north of Phoenix you run into the Mogollon Rim.  Along the I-40 corridor you're at 6000 ft. or higher and will get snow in the winter.

The areas around I-10 and south are much lower in altitude and that's where you'll find the warm winter weather.

Like COMer said, the Yuma -Quartzsite area is warm, in fact any place along the Colorado River in western AZ and into CA has warm winter weather.  You can explore up to Lake Havasu City and it's London Bridge, Bullhead City, AZ and the casinos across the river in Laughlin NV while staying warm.  Same holds true into California, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, even San Diego on the coast is nice.

Instead of tying yourself down to one location, why not explore a bit?  There's plenty of room unless you're looking to stay in Phoenix for the season.  Along the Colorado River, the only time things get a little crowded is during the latter part of January, and that's a good time to join us and try some desert boondocking around Quartzsite.  Take a look at the Quartzsite Rally threads for more information.

I searched and searched and for the past two winters have been in a wonderful RV Park in Twentynine Palms California, just two miles from Joshua tree NP...wonderful area and a very active park with a full schedule of activities and very reasonable daily, weekly and monthly rates and if you golf we are next to a nice little 9 hole course with package rates.

The difference this park made is the people - very friendly and easy to get along with and everyone pitches in - guaranteed when you pull in someone will walk over and give you an activity schedule and invite you to participate...

No rig envy here either, there are all kinds from million dollar buses to class C's and B's and trailers and 5th wheels....from new to old! Just plain regular folks....

Only park in town so easy to find and all the amenities - covered pool, hot tub, big clubhouse, fitness room, tennis, you name it!

Come on down...warm desert days and clear cool desert evenings - heat rarely on and A/C rarely on....perfect!

And explore Joshua Tree, Palm Springs close to Quartzside and the Colorado River for a weekend escape!

If you qualify there are several military RV parks in AZ and Ca.  We are in El Centro CA and pay 300/ month
for full hookups on base with lots to do in the desert.  Getting a little warm now  but Jan/ Feb are nice.
