We will be traveling from Niagara Falls to Chicago in mid August. Any suggestions for camping destinations along the way would be appreciated. We are seeking locations with natural beauty (state/national parks, hiking, canoeing etc) away from busy cities. We are open to traveling through the Canadian side. Thanks!
 
We made the trip from Chicago area to Niagara Falls a few years ago and blogged about it.  We went up through Michigan and Canada on the way there and down through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana on the way back.  We didn't exactly have the same goals as you (nature and no big cities) but you may find the blog interesting none the less.  http://www.ourfamilymisadventures.blogspot.com/2012/07/niagara-trip-day-1-its-mystery.html
