We're planning a trip to Yellowstone this summer with a stop-off in the Badlands/ Black Hills area along the way. Time frame is late August, a week or so before Labor Day. Traveling in a Sprinter C with a "towed".

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Rapid City seems central to all that is around there unless there is a better location for that area.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Rafter J Bar and Spearfish City CG are two that we like in the Black Hills.

Peter D's in Sheridan. Very comfortable, easy in and out and wonderful town to explore/good restaurants and great art on every street corner. See RVParksReviews for feedback and other suggestions.

If you are members of the Elks Club there is a  very nice ( but small 8 space)  Elks Lodge RV park right in Rapid City.  It is on a golf course and the lodge serves decent meals almost every night! Water and Electric only.

The Badlands is very hot in August during the day, but it cools down reasonably at night. The campground in the park itself is a lovely place. They have a few electric sites, but most are non-electric. We stayed there in a travel, trailer and slept very comfortably with the windows open.

Badlands: Badlands/White River KOA. You don't want to be without elect. there in August.

Wall: On the way to Rapid City, be sure to make time to stop by Wall and checkout world famous Wall Drugs. You'll need a few hours for that.

Rapid City/Black Hills: Broken Arrow CG (Custer) or one of the Custer State Park campgrounds.

There is also a campground in Wall. Not too bad if not staying very long.
