I'd like to start changing my own transmission fluid. I purchased a filter kit. Can I drain the pan or must everything come out the filter caps? The place I got the filters from said it must come out the filter caps, but, I remember someone else saying there is a drain plug for the initial drain. I have an Allison MD3060 in a 2000 Dutchstar with Spartan chassis.

Dick,

Allison shows drain plugs for several of their transmissions in one of their service tips. They also say that they don't endorse "fluid exchanging machines". You might need to nose around their web site a bit to find the relevant documentation for your model.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks.
