Santa Barbara, CA - Neal Taylor Nature Center Host
« on: July 10, 2015, 02:57:00 PM »
The Neal Taylor Nature Center located at Cachuma Lake in the hills above Santa Barbara, CA is looking for a single volunteer or a volunteer couple. We need host(s) preferably starting around mid-August 2015 and staying as long (if desired) as mid-April, 2016. We need someone who is going to stay a few months at minimum.

The volunteer(s) will be working with a fun and friendly group of other volunteers in the Nature Center and duties will include assisting with greeting visitors and children's groups to the Nature Center, attending to a small gift shop, light duty helping to keep the Nature Center dusted and vacuumed, and some light computer work. Some computer skills are a big plus for someone who wants to help. Anyone who could devote all the 20 hours to maintenance would be extremely desirable so handypersons please apply!

In exchange for volunteering 20 hours a week, a full hookup RV site (electric, water, sewer) is provided in an RV park just steps away from the Nature Center.  Hours are somewhat flexible, but revolve around the Center's 10AM- 4PM Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM- 2PM Sunday schedule.

The Cachuma Lake Recreation Area is a short 20 minute drive to Santa Barbara, 10 minutes to Santa Ynez and the start of the valley wine country. There are so many fun things (something for everyone) to do in the area.

This is an excellent rewarding host opportunity for people who are energetic, responsible, self-directed, organized, and friendly! Visit our website at www.clnaturecenter.org to learn more about the Nature Center.  Call Julie at 805-693-0691 or email Julie@clnaturecenter.org

We look forward to having you join us!

Wow, too bad I am living in Florida or I would jump on that job in a heartbeat. In 1965 I attended church camp across from Lake Cachuma and that is when I learned to play guitar.
I would like to apologize to anyone I have not yet offended. Please be patient and I will get to you shortly.

Yes, this is a great opportunity for some folks to spend time in the area.  The hours worked are so little (only 20 hours/week per RV site, not per person) that there is plenty of free time to explore and experience.  We still have camps across the highway and one of them is probably the camp you were at.  We have the counselors come to the Nature Center every spring to learn about the area so they can give the kids good information.  We have many thousands of school children a year come to the Nature Center on a full day field trip to the lake.  One of the few rules we have for the kids in the Nature Center is "PLEASE TOUCH".  This is a hands on nature center and the kids love it!

Tonight is movie night at the outdoor amphitheatre, the nature cruise is this weekend, kids fishing workshop is next week, nature walk and junior rangers is tomorrow.  Our next host needs to get here now to join in on the fun!
