A friend of mine was asking me about wind turbines to generate electricity for charging an RV's batteries. I, personally, don't know anyone who's using one. The only one I've ever actually seen was not only generating electricity, but a fair amount of noise as well. It was mounted on a pole, which was strapped to the back of a cab-over camper. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Had one on sailboat, not had one on RV... yet... It would work fine, some have noise that radiates through the hollow pole they are mounted on.

There used to be some in January in Quartzsite between our Section 541 and the big tent, but I don't recall seeing any this year.  The people were boondocking for extended periods and had large solar panels as well as wind turbines.

I have a 400 watt turbine and I also have solar.

The only way I would get my turbine out is if I lived on the coast or an area that was always blustery.

It's such a pain in the butt to store the pole and set up vrs the panels which are on the roof and require me to do nothing.

Solar all the way unless you are blessed with big wind.
