Another great walk this morning. One of our walkers skipped the walk to go take a shower in Yuma. Terry B's fluid guy showed up just as the walk was starting so he missed. But Bill Dane drove up from Yuma for the walk and will be back for Happy Hour. We'll be walking again at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Be there if you don't want us to talk about you !

Happy Hour at 4 p.m. Come prepared to tell us something we don't already know about you.
More pictures under the Framily sign.

Looking forward to another beautiful sunset and another evening campfire.

Have a fun day.

I'm stuck at home, sick with the flu that's been going around Santa Monica College last week.  I was only in there for one day last week, but that followed by a day spent on a cold and wet mountaintop re-aligning a satellite dish did me in.

I was hoping it would pass over the weekend, but it's lingering on for a while so I won't be able to get to Quartzsite this week.  Besides, I'd hate to pass this along to anyone else in the group.

Have fun, and keep the reports coming!

Boy oh boy, what a GREAT group of people.  It was good to see old , oops, at my age I need to be careful about that word, friends and meet new .  Called Raymonda on the way back to the Foothills [Yuma] and she was sad that not being able to be there, but looking to next year.

The RVForum group was privileged this afternoon to have  Paul and Mao Unmack of ARPrv Control  talk to us about the  control monitor he has designed and  patented to make absorption refrigerators safer and  more effective.  Several  RVForum  members have  this unit in operation.

Paul spoke  highly of  our very own Gary Brink as being knowledgable and articulate on this topic.   Paul presented a very technical topic with humor, and used an analogy of a coffee pot boiling dry and the  ill effects.

He provides a website to  detail all  points of  his  Controller Please visit www.ARPrv.com or call (406) 494-1959

At Happy Hour tonight we greeted and welcomed new  arrivals Bill Nash and Pam Nash who came with the most creative clever Name tags this reporter has ever seen of  a new forum member.  Big enough print for all of "OLD EYES" people to read and best use of recycled casino card cords ever seen.  Plus they recycled a  donut box to make the  name tag.  So recycling is in their favor!  Welcome  here.

Arriving yesterday (but since  I was not here for a photo) pictured now are  Ken and Sheila. I heard Ken has news today  that while shopping in the  big tent  and he  got an 18 inch extension .  Many were impressed!  His  new  Genturi  is now  above the height of his rig.

On a  day road trip from Yuma Ray and Liza joined us at Happy Hour to  share the details of  their project his summer to rid themselves of home and  possessions ( except those stored) and the subsequent major project to  get resettled in  a newly purchased home in Yuma.  Moving is never easy.  Their  motorhome is presently in storage surrounded  by their belongings that have  not  yet fit into  new home.

On a final note as several were scrambling for  Name  Tags our Deputy Sheriff officially declared as of now  this area  is a Sanctuary City and nametagless people did not have to run back to their rigs for tags.   What a guy.

Paul rounded out the RVForum discussion with his  new Sewer hose.  He actually got it 1/2 off for problem he had with the old  one. So the company  stood up.  All Forum discussions seem to lead to  black water.

OK Me again,

We  had several folks leave our group today.  Jerry and Ardra have had it with  boondocking and  headed  back to their  home in Las Vegas.  Susan and brother Bob left and  I don't know why.  Maybe they  were shopped out as the car was  gone an awful lot! Doug and  Sheryl had refrigerator  problems and headed to Yuma .  Bye  bye you guys   happy trails BUT they did  miss my  big opportunity to Pass the envelope around the circle.  As has become a New Years Tradition an envelope is passed around the circle to allow people to make a contribution to run the RVForum.

So if you missed this happy hour you can still look for the  DONATE button across the front  page of the RVForum and make a donation to the  running of the forum.  The  friendships we develop, tips we learn are priceless.  Envelopes came flying back to  me Thank you.

Flags are sold  out!

Lots to report from RVForum Rally Friday, Jan 22, 2016.   BUT I am discouraged  having posted a few events with no response.  Is anyone out there?

An off road ride was planned for today and promptly at  9 am  5 vehicles  departed, CB's tuned to  34 and FRS radios on 5. I have my hands full managing radios. Terry led with the  capable and  reliable and trail tested Frank and Barb managing Tail gunner status.

It was a  fun day as it was a first for  many.  Jim Johnson  had  a passenger Richard  Sharp  with his first Quartzsite off road trail and a first for  JJ's Jeep Commander.  It was  Sylvia's first off road trail with  passengers Deb and Jerry  at the radio! It was the first  off road trail  for  Larry with his new Jeep Sahara.  It was our first time having  passengers in the  back  seat of our  new 2016 Rubicon on an off road trail.  (Ken and Sheila were delightful back seat  passengers.) At one point during the trail  Frank attracted 4 additional Jeeps who did not know the way out of our trail and  elected to  follow our slow pace   out of the  mountains past the Clothing Optional Campsite and out to  Highway 95.

It was a BEAUTIFUL day with perfect weather and no wind. We all missed  Henry and  Margaret's attendance as  he cried a bit when  we left.  Seems   he  had to collect his  General Deliver Mail  from the  Q Post  office. His story of  mail retrieval is worth a separate Post.

We had a squeeze to negotiate, Stone Cabin to visit,  lunch to enjoy  and the  Ridge  to navigate.  Happily the group returned to camp around  2 :15, a  record time!  No flat tires, no strapping of vehicles, no off track trails  to correct, and we even had a couple of 10:100's (aka potty stops.)   Just ask Deb about the one injury of the day where she  hurt her hand  by steadying herself with a  cholla. Sympathies and 'nuff said  ( no photos included! )

Missed  those of you who have done this trail  with us before but wow we made good time with out you! I'm sending  out a bunch of k photos of the  day with captions that I learned how to do  last night despite Jeff's lessons years ago!

Hi Betty
Yes I did read every word you wrote here. I'm very jealous of you guys. Don't have our RV yet (In storage at the dealer until better weather) but soaking it all in to see what a rally is all about. We signed up for the Winnebago 2016 Grand National Rally in Forest City IA in July. Excited to go Rving and thanks for all the journals here and I like the pictures a lot!

So many funny stories at Happy Hour tonight.  I  share them in attempt  to give those of you unable to attend,  a good laugh or a good tip! It seems there were the right number  of attendees tonight to allow conversation and friendships  and laughs.

So Jeff steps up to  goodie  table and is intrigued  by an appetizer made by new comer Pam. He samples one and  asks , "who made these?"  Pam  raises her hand and I see him  sneak over to her and he  then  instructs her to teach these other women how to make  this appetizer.  I think it is called Yakatori. I had one.    I  asked Pam directly for her recipe  of this treat and it is  indeed fairly simple and very tasty.    The hard part  was finding a market in Quartzsite with all the ingredients.  They made a trips to  3 markets in town to find  all things.  Sliced   water chestnuts were the big problem. Stay tuned for  the recipe....Bill will assist her  in  getting the  recipe  posted on our RVForum library!

On the same note  my  husband was delighted out of his mind last night  when 2 appetizers showed up at the same time that were what I  call  beannie weenies or pigs in a blanket. He quickly identified  Mary Ann N as the  maker  and inhaled more than  his fair share.  Pam had   made the second batch of the same  treat that was  also quickly consumed. So featured tonight are the   Martha Stewart goodie Awards of of this rally   Pam and Mary Ann.   Those of us who  brought  peanuts and   granola get honorable mention award! I'm wondering where were the  celery sticks and  carrots to assist in my New Year's resolutions.

Another RVForum.net First for a Quartzsite Rally !

Henry started a fire and we were  getting warm. Just after  the award winning  appetizers were gone as well as the peanuts, granola and chips and dips,  a white  van pulled up.  Can you believe it, it was filled  with   Girl Scouts  cookies  for sale. You have never seen Terry run to our rig so fast to get  cash!  I think  EVERY RVForum member around that fire supported the  girl scout cookie  sales.  Freezing the thin mints seemed to be the tip of the day.  What a coup for that Troop!

The men were the longest to last around the wonderful  fire of the night!  Good night!

Rule #1 and #2 don't say to wear a name badge with your own name, just to wear a name badge.

And, no, I didn't notice. Did anyone?

I am so loving all the posts and pictures, but I was sort of saving them for the end, to savor them all at once.  Thanks so much Betty and Wendy and all the others who participated.  Since it's doubtful we'll ever make another one, the narratives and pics all help to keep it alive and well for us.  Good to see so many old and new friends there and everyone having a great time.  That's what it's all about, fun, fun and more fun.

Jerry, I think Betty was picking on each of us, so the next time we are all together and there is a pond, river or even a wash full of water, I think we dunk her.  As for the tire, the tough to find replacement was finally replaced last fall when all the tires were replaced, and as for the straps, it was Terry, Henry, Larry to name a few who did all the work, she just stood back did what most women do, that is give the men orders.
Glad to see the weather has held, no micro bursts or heavy rain, and that everyone is having a good time.  We miss you all, travel safely and we will cross paths again.

I'm following every message and especially enjoying all the pictures.  I can almost feel the desert pavement underfoot and feel the wind blow.  One of my favorite Quartzsite moments was when all the ladies gathered in a circle around Betty's pulled out generator.  We were all staring at the gen, looking worried and scratching our heads.  Sure got the guys' attention quickly.  ;D

It was Saturday , the  Final  Day of the RVForum Rally and as Tradition dictates, POTLUCK DAY! Now  I have no idea why  but as many people snuck out of this potluck experience as people who snuck in.

I missed the morning walk and heard Pam and Bill were late to the  10 am start and were left in the  dust.  They did not know the route  but managed to find the dumpsters and crossed a few washes to make it look like they were in the lead!  Even the leaders (fast walkers) Margaret and  Sheila managed to lose the way home. I should a been there!  But happily  I was able to have a delightful walk after the  potluck with Ann.  Different schedules work for all!

I watched in disappointment this morning as Richard  picked up their chairs from the  campfire area.  This can only mean you are leaving! Say it ain't so!  And then  Larry and Mary Ann pulled out.  I thought "OH they are going to the  dump" ...but their Jeep was hooked up!  I did not  get to say good bye but learned from  Wendy that  Larry  had inverter/ battery problems and  had to go to a park with full hook ups and a fix in Lake Havasu. I wonder how  much  influence aMary Ann had on this decision?

But about  noon I  saw  Don and Peg Miller drive in from their home in Camp Verde to  join our Potluck.  Peg is always welcomed with her freshly baked  peach and apple pies!  And just after the Potluck  I saw Bill aka Helicopter Huey drive in to  visit with the  group. So we  had a  feast of  plenty  withs recipes requested and compliments given to the chefs.

The group was smaller this year and food stayed  hotter as we  did not pose for a group shot.  No one went hungry and  one of  my favorites was  from Deb  with  her green chili stew using Hatch chilies.  Gulp my eyes watered and nose ran and I loved it!

In a later  Happy Hour  meeting Terry taught  Jim Johnson a new trick to use with his cell  phone camera.  He just has to  say  "shoot " and the phone will take a picture without touching anything.  Terry learned this trip from Seilorbird from one of his posts. RVForum posts are very informative  and useful!

One of  my favorite lines of the  day happened  at 6:30 around the evening  campfire when  my cousin Jim and Claire showed up having  been absent all day .  I hollered " Hey Jim you missed the potluck."  His response was " Well I  thought the Potluck was  going to  be on Saturday! "    DUH!!!!  It is  Saturday.  Many laughs.

Recall the  story of Richard taking his chairs from the circle?  Well  he replaced them with  fancy ones with a side table just for the  potluck.  He states his  old  chairs are good for  campfires but embers  and dust are  hazardous to chairs so he reserves his good chairs for the  Potluck!  Good plan ! And so glad they did not leave!

Terry says with a week of Dry camping the weakest  link in your RV is going to  show up. An entire  crew of men  assisted Jim J with his  battery issues and alas no one is certain the problem is resolved.  RV living is not for the faint of heart! JJ was left  bloody and Terry said  his hands and mustache tasted of  battery.

I featured a photo to show you what our potluck area looks like. This was one of those  years when we did not worry about  rain, wind nor cold. It was a perfect  RVForum Potluck.

And then  the true features of why we  love the desert began to show up.  I have the  desert sunsets in as many   ways as I can show.  I also included  the neighbor with the fancy light after dark.

A wonderful day for a wonderful group of lifelong friends!   I  even heard there was an engagement  among our group!
