The Dodds "aka Team LoLa" in Canada
« on: July 30, 2015, 07:29:56 AM »
We entered Canada via Port Huron.  We have been to Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec and now to Peggys Cove in Nova Scotia.  We met up with Gary & Maria Brucker and Henry and Margaret Wishard in Amhearst.  We ran into Gary while shopping.  We have had sort of a mini rally and have enjoyed the scenery and time to visit and discuss our trips.  We're doing with Henry & Margaret via ferry to Newfoundland, then when we return we will plan our route south.  Our trip back will likely include another week on Nova Scotia before sneaking back into the US via St. Stephen NB.

No idea on our route down the eastern seaboard, but we do plan to winter in Moore Haven, east of Ft. Myers FL.  Kids are planning on coming down for Thanksgiving so that will be fun.

Here is a photo of our group in Amhearst.  Ed & Donna are around and we hope we can find a time when we can all get together before we break off and head our separate ways.

I am so jealous, we so enjoyed our time in the Maritimes. Hope you enjoy Newfoundland as much as we did.  We are under the heat warning here in Eugene Oregon, 100 degrees today, ugh...

Enjoy Canada guys, did Peggys Cove and Newfoundland back in the 1980's, along with all of Nova Scotia. Would love to go back someday.

Thanks for the report and photo.

It's been a few years since we were in the Maritimes. An unplanned last-minute trip at the suggestion of Steve Pally. As a result of time constraints and other commitments, we spent only two weeks there and need to go back for a "proper" visit.

Glad to hear you're having such a good trip.  Isn't Peggy's Cove delightful?  Digby has the world's best sea scallops if you get in that vicinity.  There is so much neat history in Newfoundland - with several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, all of which are worth visiting.  If you get over to Labrador, Red Bay is very old and worth an overnight stay (leave the RVs in NF and take your car on the ferry), but take stuff to counteract their darned biting flies!  St. John's has the oldest retail store (Irene's Curios) on the oldest street in the oldest city in North America.  It was a city before we settled New York City.  And the "Newfies" are (maybe?) even more friendly than Texans!  ;)

Today is August 1, 2015 and we have been Full Time for one year.  We celebrated with
Ed & Donna, Gary & Maria, Henry & Margaret, and of course Spook & Chopper who stayed
inside the coach, as you know, no dogs are allowed at food events.

We enjoyed a cook your own steak night, followed by cake and ice cream an early birthday
celebration for Margaret who has one in a few days.  Food was good, fellowship was awesome.
This is why we went on the road.  Having a ball.

The sun played havoc with the clarity of these, but you will see that we were all having a ball renewing old friendships.  We had a thunderstorm overnight, so I hope the visitors enjoyed the light show in honour of Natal Day.  Enjoy the rest of your trips, as stated, we sure miss the travelling and comradery so will not be without an RV for very long.

That would be Amherst...if you are talking NS...

Wasn't the run through NB brutal....the road is worst starting in Sackville to Moncton and beyond... we damaged our rig through that section at below highway speeds..

Enjoy you stay here...

We came out of Canada yesterday, arriving in Bangor at Pumpkin Patch RV Resort.
We were there for 59 days and did about 5700 km.  We had a great trip but it is good
to be back in the US where we can buy goods and services that we are accustomed to.

Looking forward to our east coast tour.  The Maritimes were great and Henry & Margaret
have once again proven to be great travel companions.  We will have a few more days
with them in Boston, NYC and DC before they split of and begin a wander towards Texas
and the Grandkids.

We will head to Florida where our Kids and Grandkids will join us in November for our
usual   "HallowThanksMasYearsEve" Holiday.  I will explain this holiday.

When we had a stick & brick, the grandkids showed up Wednesday before Thanksgiving
in their Halloween costumes to trick or treat Nana & Papa.  Then on Thursday was the
traditional Thanksgiving.  Thursday evening we set up the tree, play Christmas music and
then on Friday - SANTA HAS BEEN HERE!!!  We open packages and enjoy Christmas.  Saturday
morning the house gets put to order, the grandkids go to bed early and the adults stay up and
drink too much.  Hallow-Thanks-Mas-Year's-Eve all in one weekend.  It's a good way to go.

More to follow . . . Stay tuned.

Larry, sounds like you and Loretta, along with Henry and Margaret, had a great time.  I find it interesting that in only 59 days you come back and are already accustomed to the metric system.

It was nice seeing you all when you were in the Maritimes.  Hopefully all continued to be well after we got together at Peggy's Cove.  FWIW, shortly after you all left, there was a large pod of porpoise that spent a few days fishing in St Margaret's Bay right off where the 3 of you were set up.
We've been busy since, and are now in Ottawa herding 4 of our grandkids.  Who knows, maybe we can get together while you are in Florida.

On your way south, two places you might consider stopping are the Martin Guitar factory in Bethlehem, PA and The Grounds for Sculpture in Trenton, NJ. The second one is a MUST visit! You'll not be disappointed.  You can stay at one of the campgrounds near the Delaware Water Gap (our old home area) and both places are an easy day trip/ drive in the Jeep.

We're sitting here while it's raining in Astoria, OR.

While visiting Chet  some years ago we took him up on his offer to visit  this Grounds or Sculpture. It remains  one of my  top 2 sights. Don't miss it. We also enjoyed Martin Guitar factory a  bunch.  The only thing you will miss in the area is Chet and Laurie's place which they sold to go full timing.  It was a unique property !
Life on the road is so good!
