Awesome singing from the Beatles
« on: September 06, 2015, 07:07:29 AM »
The Beatles were the most significant popular music act in the last century and still today no one can beat them. They were loved because of three main reasons, composing, musicianship and singing. They had three incredible composers in the group writing such classics as Yesterday, Something, Hey Jude, Michelle, I Am The Walrus and Strawberry Fields Forever. All four members were unbelievable musicians and they all redefined their instruments inspiring thousands of other musicians. But where they really stood out was their ability as vocalists. I recently discovered a mind blowing track that really shows off just how good their vocal talents were.

The song is called Because written by John Lennon from the last album they made, Abbey Road in 1969. John was inspired to write it when he heard Yoko playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. He asked her to play the chords backwards and from that inspiration he wrote the song. The recording has John singing the melody, George singing the low harmony and Paul singing the high harmony. Then they recorded the three parts three times to end up with nine vocals parts on the recording. This is sung over a harpsichord, bass, acoustic guitar and a Moog synthesizer. This is one of the first times a Moog appeared in a pop song.

I have found a version of the song with all the instruments stripped away leaving only the nine vocal parts. It is best to listen to this masterpiece in a good pair of headphones to fully appreciate their vocal talents:

After listening to this I discovered Andrew Lubman has produced a series of videos recreating the vocal magic. He starts with recording three versions of each of the three parts:

Then he combines all nine parts into one video:

Then he proceeds to add all of the instruments:

That guy has a sicking amount of talent. I am jealous.
