Hi all,

I'm planning on skinning my homemade rig with untreated plywood.  I need to waterproof it.  I have read about using CPES, or oil-based paint, or canvas with Titebond II, or fiberglass, or some type of epoxy resin, or even just rubber-type paint.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these or could suggest a sure way to protect the "skin?"

Thanks much,
Jenny

Used to do cabin tops on sailboats with stretched canvas and paint worked well but needed replaced or at least repainted annually in the hot sun.

The canvas would be soaked in water and stretched tight and held in place with trim molding then let the sun shrink it until tight, then painted with ground walnut shells in the paint for a non-skid finish. Sand had iron it it and would cause rust stains in the paint - so used walnut shells.

These were quite durable. Almost a lost art now...

I would be tempted to use epoxy or fiberglass as more durable and easier.

Good Luck,

Jimn
