PSI offers 500 hp gas V8
« on: November 28, 2015, 04:46:45 PM »
Power Solutions International (PSI) is introducing it's own 8.8L, 500 hp gas engine for use in the motorhome market. I haven't seen any chassis manufacturer jump on it yet, but the newly resurrected Workhorse Chassis company would seem to be a likely bet.

This image of their ad in RV Pro is a bit hard to read, but you can get the gist:

And the company website has some stuff too:

It produces a ton of torque at low RPMs.  If they can mate it with a decent chassis it may give the entry level diesels a run for the money.

From some discussions I've had elsewhere they start with the 8.1L Chevy Vortec Block, I assume Stroked and bored to get it to 8.8L   But it appears the major noticed difference SO FAR. is the exhaust manifold.  On the 8.1 it is a "Rear dump" and on the 8.8. Center dump..  But if that's the only difference it just might be a bolt in replacement.

The article states that it is a bolt in replacement for ChevyBB. With different manifolds a custom Y-pipe and moving some hoses and wiring may be needed to prevent melting.
