I gave up on the lottery a long time ago.   I held up my end of the bargain, I chose my numbers and bought a ticket.

They didn't hold up their end of the agreement.

But it's not a Billion. You'll have to pay tax on that money.  Then you're down to less than $700 Million.

I don't play the lottery. But we decided to splurge a bit for the fun of it. I dropped a $20 bill. What the heck.
We have a party store in our area that has a well known reputation for winners. They have an actual 4 leaf clover there that ticket buyers rub for luck. They are on the local news all the time. The DW says she might stop there on the way home from work and purchase some numbers for the $1.3 billion. I'll probably drop another $20 somewhere for grins.

Like I said...What the heck. You can't win if you don't play. I probably got $20 bucks worth in change in the ash tray of my pick up truck anyhow. I won't miss it. Just for fun.

In the last thirty years I have not spent one penny of alcohol. In the last sixteen years I have not spent one penny on cigarettes. In the last twenty years I have spent $40 on lottery tickets. I am not going to feel guilty about buying another twenty dollars worth on Tuesday. I am not behind in payment to anyone and my cats are well fed. I won't miss it.

Just because the math is poor doesn't mean it's not great fun! The odds of staying married are really poor too, but that hasn't slowed anyone down. And I don't even want to discuss the math of owning an RV...

Excellent point! The odds of winning the Grand Prize for the last drawing was mentioned as being the same as flipping a quarter and having it come up heads 28 times in a row! Yeah, right!   :o

If you're spending money you really need for next weeks bills, then you have another issue to deal with.
Otherwise, have a little fun if you want to. Who knows? Dreams have been known to come true.

Yes the odds are horrible for winning the lottery however there is one inescapable conclusion, you cannot win if you do not play. 8)

A few years ago a PowerBall payoff got up into this range and there were stories of professional gamblers realizing the payoff greatly exceeded what it would cost to buy tickets with every possible combination of winning numbers.  So several did just that, the problem was they forgot when there's multiple winners the payoff gets divided between them.  None of them made their investment back.

However, there is the exception...
The one single person who takes it all. Happened in Three Rivers, MI. One lady who checked her numbers while on lunch break from her job in a drive-thru at a fast food joint. Over $300 million.
What the heck....

Probably true.  But we pay taxes everyday and it never gives anyone the chance to dream of winning anything.  ::)

PS.  There was a group of people where I worked hit our state million dollar lottery.  Actually my first foreman where I had worked.  He died a year later.   So far, I feel I am the lucky one.  Good health.

Hey, one of the very few advantages of a 70 cent dollar, is that this is quickly approaching the $2 billion Canadian, and as I understand it, the Tax withheld is rebatable.  So please keep on buying so we can take home $2B, and maybe afford to put fuel in an RV.   ;)

Rene, I'm only a half hour from Lazydays, it wouldn't take me long to pick one out.  Brad, you could feel comfortable using any of the Canadian Banks, we haven't had one go under in well over a hundred years, including the Great Depression, or the 2008 recession.

I bought my first lottery ticket last week. I've never paid much attention.
It states the odds are  1 in 292.2 million.... yet over 1 billion tickets were sold.
2 billion in cash to chase the impossible dream.

most of the Prevost's will end up here anyway.

Anyone who wants to spend $20 on lotto, send me the money instead.  I'll guarantee you the same relative odds of winning a billion dollars!

I've never played so I guess I'm missing out.  Last time the jackpot was high I was gifted a ticket by a gas station clerk (I found her glasses in the parking lot and she was thrilled) and I kinda wondered how much I should (?) give her if I won... which I didn't of course, so it was an easy decision.  ;)

Well, just to cover our bases if we don't win tomorrow night, we plan on heading over to the Florida RV Show in the morning to look at what is available.  I won't buy, because I expect to win the Powerball, in which case it will change what we are looking for.

For some strange reason I feel I have better odds of winning if I actually buy lottery tickets. 8)

Tom makes a good point.  Don't send your money to Scottyd.  Send it to me instead.  I'll send you $10.00 the day after the drawing.  I'll buy one ticket and put the rest in my pocket.  It's a win win.

The odds on staying married are about 50-50.  The odds on winning the lottery are something like 270,000,000 to 1.

I would buy a new DP but I would also hire a mechanic to fix all the problems. Unfortunately the mechanic would cost more than the DP but with a billion dollars I could afford it.

So far it sounds like Tom S is the closest to the Florida winner.  Tom was it you?  We had 4 tickets and 2 of them had 1 number, guess I won a great big nothing  :(  So, there will be a Prevost or Newell salesman very disappointed at the Show today when I don't come in to buy.

I was 50 miles away from the winner. I bought twenty dollars worth which gave me ten tickets for a total of 60 numbers. I got about four total numbers. So I wouldn't have won if I used the entire ticker. In 2013 when there was the last huge Powerball drawing I was also 50 miles from the winner but in the opposite direction.

While I appear not to have won big, I did  have a million dollars worth of fun dreaming about  the big win.  We laughed and shared dreams with friends.  Heck we  even had a pact to share some of the winnings if we hit it.  A fun time and I wish the winner well with the new fortune!

But I am still highly disappointed this morning....This was the  first time in years I've bought into the lottery so there was a real possibility.  Fun to dream!

Well I must sat that I am a winner this morning. No I did not win the big prize but spent $4.00 on 2 tickets and although I did not have a single white number I did have the #10 powerball with a $4.00 payoff.
I'll put that away for the next time it gets to a Billion. Maybe it will bring me luck and it is a great feeling to say I was a winner in the 1.6 Billion dollar lottery.

I did a LOT of reading on what to do if you win a big lottery.  There is a lot to go through to be able to save on a large amount of taxes and being able to set your family up to benefit from the winnings without them being taxed to death too. Seems like a lot of stress is involved in being responsible with the winnings. Just give me about a million to take care of the wife and me. Let the rest of the family fin for themselves.

I saw a coule of stories that were not far off from that.  The first was a woman in the south wha has been sued so many times that her winnings are almost gone from legal fees.

Another woman has spent most of her winning bailing her drug dealing thug boyfriend(s) out of jail and paying their legal fees.

I don't think either of them is playing with a full deck.

Best advice:  move far far away.  But I think an RV might be the perfect solution.

The TLC show "Lottery Changed My Life" is quite insightful, and I've only seen a few episodes some years back.  Hint: the stories rarely have a positive outcome.  The majority of lottery contributors (and thus winners) are from low-income classifications with little education on how to handle money, especially not large windfalls.  The results are sometimes painfully predictable.

Did you read the article this morning about the woman who allegedly spent all her money on tickets. She supposedly is now broke and she says she has a family and can't make it home. She started a Go Fund Me page and has raised $800.00. All she's asking for is a dollar from anyone. What a scam. If anyone donates anything to the person is a idiot.

Here is how it is suppose to be...

The DW and I spent $60.00 over the last two drawings.
We won a grand total of $4.00.
We can still afford to pay the bills. We won't miss the loss.
We still can't retire. Oh well.
We had fun.
Time to move on.

I put $10 into the office pool (105 chances)
I put $10 into my own ticket (5 more)
and my wife, not knowing that I had bought, picked up I think it was $14 worth (another 7 chances)

so $34 in
and I won just a smidge over $0.19
(a 1/21 share of $4 from the office pool)

we don't normally play, but why not..... it was fun dreaming about it...
