We arrived home in California Saturday night, in time for me to re-engage with the Delta Strummers. Last evening was one of three "open mic" nights where folks are encouraged to audition 'new' songs for the band to potentially add to our portfolio.
In addition to several soloists, we had a number of small bands perform, and I was blown away by the talent that's emerging from the group.
Yours truly performed with 10 others in a banjo ukulele band. Arriving home on Saturday allowed me to practice with the small (banjouke) band on Sunday, and we practiced again yesterday afternoon. The competition among these small groups is intense.
We have a major concert coming up in April, and the program will include a mix of songs from our existing portfolio and 'new' numbers from the open mic sessions; The next few weeks of rehearsal will help narrow down the playlist.
