North to Alaska
« on: February 06, 2016, 05:14:07 PM »
We're planning a trip to Alaska from Colorado in early August for a month or more, going up the Rocky Mountain Route as described on http://www.northtoalaska.com/Maps-and-Routes/Rocky-Mountain-Route.aspx. and returning home to Colorado via the Gold Rush Route at http://www.northtoalaska.com/Maps-and-Routes/Gold-Rush-Route.aspx.

We very much like boondocking with our 37' Class A. We also tow 2 ATV's that we like to use as much as possible for exploring.

We would like to limit the number of days we spend in organized campgrounds.  We much prefer the wilderness and would like to ATV right from our campsite as we will not have a truck to tow them.

Any suggestions for wilderness camping?

ATV trails?

Crown Land boondocking?

We came down the Rocky Mountain Route 2 years ago. Flew up and drove back. There were lots of boondocking sites along the way in Canada.

Lots of Places once you are in AK.  Sutton, Just North of Palmer has a reclaimed mine area around slipper lake that ALOT of locals (myself included) that go camping and riding on weekends.  Miles and miles of trails.  Eska falls is a hard ride.  Lots a mud there a lot of the time. ;D
Just north of there is King River.
Even further North there is Eureka.
Don't think there is much riding towards Seward?
Some places as you head towards Homer and the best boondock campground in Homer is a city or state facility called Mariner park.  It's on the right, just as you enter the spit.  You can ride wheelers there on the beach, but it is pretty limited area. 8)
