We will be camping in the Central City area around July 4th. Should we try to make reservations to go white water rafting? Is there usually more than enough availability to just show up?

I would think that close to Denver you should make a reservation. It may be less busy during the week, but I would guess weekends get busy. Make sure to be the front paddlers if possible. Better experience and less likely to get hit in the face by someone's paddle. I have been rafting for ~20 years and I can tell you you will have a blast.
