Looking to explore the 395 from the San Diego area to Reno....looking for recommendations for RV parks there and along the way.

I suppose a stop in Bishop is mandatory to visit Schat's Bakery.  Dan

A bit closer to Reno...in Carson City:

Stayed there a couple of nights last summer. Decent place. Clean, relatively quiet, (close to the highway, but still not overly loud. )

Highland RV park in Bishop is good.  Also if you like Chinese food or sushi there are two great restaurants right on the main drag of town near Shats.  ;)  Here are a few others:

Paradise Shores in Bridgeport, especially if you are interested in fishing the Walker River.

Sparks Marina near Reno.  Nice place, easy to get into.

If you are interested in Nat'l Forest camping, there are several along 395 from Bishop up through Bridgeport.

Have fun!

We are planning to stay here in the late June timeframe. My wife's uncle lives there and we can visit and go see the lake from there. Nice to read a good review.  Thanks

We stayed at River's Edge in Sparks, found it comfortable with a nice walk along the Truckee River. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only downside was it is directly under the final approach to the airport, we could count the rivets when the planes passed over. Fortunately none took off over us and there were no night flights.

We stayed there too and RoyM is right. Nice place but it is a tad bit close to the landing path.

Ditto on River's Edge in Sparks. Last time through we stayed overnight at the Grand Sierra in Reno. In prior years we've stayed overnight at Boomtown, now a KOA.

I assume I am a bit late for this, but there are several RV parks in the Reno area. I didn't see anybody mention the one in Cold Springs Valley right off 395 at the BorderTown Casino, which is a mile from my other home in Cold Springs Valley.

Thanks Don, that's one to keep in mind next time we come through town.

But unless you're going north on 395 past Reno, it might be too far. It's right on the CA border up 395, which is around 16 miles north of the heart of Reno.

I often go there to the gas station next to it to get my propane tank filled.

Has anyone stayed at the Zephyr Cove Resort near Lake Tahoe? http://www.zephyrcove.com/lodging/zephyr-cove-rv-campground/

What about Lakeside RV Campground near Provo? http://lakesidervcampground.com/

These are two of the places we're considering staying at on this trip. Dan

lakeside in Provo is a very nice park. clean as a whistle with excellent staff .we go out of our way to stay there when in the s.l.c. area
i will not comment on zephyr cove as it has been years since we stayed there. we stay at carson valley rv resort in minden and commute the short distance.

It's been a few years since we stayed at Zephyr Cove, but if we could get in we would stay there again. It's a beautiful place.  You need to plan ahead for that stay.  We are trying Compstock Country RV in late June.

If you want to be close to downtown and casinos, the Sparks Marina RV Park is very nice.  Jerry likes walking around the marina loop trail every morning.  The Grand Sierra is the old Hilton and has a smaller but adequate campground which I think is currently a KOA (it's changed a time or two).

Well, we were able to get reservations in both Zephyr Cove and Lakeside (in Provo), and complete the other reservations for our trip (Highlands in Bishop, CA, Iron Horse in Elko and Hitching Post in Las Vegas) in June, so I'm feeling good. Thanks for all the tips and info. Dan

And when you get half way around the lake, have a meal at the Western Village Casino--where the locals go--like me. Several restaurants inside. Some good and cheap some good but not so cheap.  It's owned by the PepperMill casino where the non-locals mostly go.
