All good things have to come to an end!!!
« on: April 05, 2016, 06:45:44 PM »
Well it's time for me and the misses to start heading back to NH tomorrow morning from Lakeland FL. We had a beautiful winter and made many new friends. Had a forum Mini Rally which was fun also. The temperature back in NH is suppose to go down to 16 degrees F tonight. YUK. I went all winter without having to wear a pair of long pants but I'm afraid that's going to an end real soon. Going to make one stop in SC to visit with Bill. Aka (HueyPilotVN). See you all when we land.  Safe travels to all.

Safe travels Rene. It's been odd weather here in upstate NY too. T-shirts on Easter weekend and now we're back to the teens and the snow plows are back in action!

We will be hanging in at our Florida home until the end of May. It will be darned hot and humid here by then, but (for medical care reasons) we need to move directly from here to our summer site in Asheville NC, so a date compromise had to be made. Should be real nice in Asheville by the time we get there, though.

We had a great visit yesterday with Rene and Lucile.  He pronounces his name like "Rainy" as in rainy day.

They arrived in time to witness the opening of the second ER unit.  I am sure he will comment about the "BIG" slideouts.  He acted as part of the safety crew to watch as it slowly came out.

We later had a cookout and then they stayed the night in the Kingstree Regional Hospital RV Park complete with electrical hookups and a security guard.

They continued on thier journey north early this morning before I got up.  That is not hard to do as 9:00 AM is early for me.

Rene will be back online when he gets to an easier internet connection than a cell phone.

edit:  I just added a picture of his good side as he was supervising the opening.  He did not know that I took his picture on my phone.

Rene and Lucille are great people, and we certainly will have to plan another mini rally here in central Florida next winter, and hopefully we will be able to attract even more Framily.

Well, just an update. We made it home last night after about 1600 miles and no I incidents whatsoever. Thankfully.  Did get to spend a little time with Bill and Renae Waugh. They are a delightful couple and were very hospitable. They know how to put on a dood feed. the food was great.  I never did see the parade. Maybe they celebrated with one after we left.   :o  It was very interesting to watch how they opened up the second OR.  What a piece of engineering. I was so impressed.  With so much work left to do, I can't see how it's going to be operational in a little bit more than a week. And to think, it's only for 2 months. Thanks for the picture Bill.

As far as the trip, on the first day we saw a huge Class A DP driven into the woods off the side of the road. The emergency personnel and wrecker were already there so no need to stop.  All we could see was the back of the rig and you could also see a huge up bend in the roof so the front end must have been  pushed in quite a bit.

Later on that morning we came upon a couple just standing outside their fifth wheel looking at the right side tires. We stopped to see if we could help. One tire was blown and there was some minor damage to the fender well.  They were trying to raise the wheel off the ground with the jack from their truck. They couldn't raise it high enough. I offered to help but with the use of my bottle jack, but they said they had Good Sam Road Service coming to assist them so we left.

A short time later, we were traveling at our normal speed of 63/64 MPH and a fifth wheel passed us going about I'd guess 75 MPH. About 20 miles down the road we saw them also on the side of the road.  Their left rear tire was blown and tons of damage. We didn't stop. We kind of felt they deserved it. Just a reminder, if you have ST tires keep the speed under 65 unless they are rated for a higher speed. Check the tire ratings.

Safe travels to all and hope to see you down the road.
