Just checked with my CU. No luck. They don't have a way of sorting that many coins. Checking to see if the DW's CU can do it. Starting with the closest place first and working outward. This doggone thing is heavy!

Is there a casino nearby?

I couldn't help but laugh! Picturing myself two-wheeling this 5 gallon water jug full of coins through the front door to the coin counter, spend probably an hour feeding it, cashing it in and walking out with my empty dolly. And not dropping even one coin in a bandit. I would almost bet every security camera in the place would be on me!  ;D

I think you will be closer to $1000-1500?
Guessing you have pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
I got $400-500 a few years back and I think my 5 gallon glass water jug was between 1/4 and 1/2 full.  Maybe 1/3?

How long did it take to fill it to 1/3?

Yes....lol
I'm going to guesstimate 10 years?  But that really is a guess.  I remember taking it with me for a few military PCS moves and on occasion I would dig out a bunch of quarters to wash a car or something.  Of course I was the main contributor and was also away and deployed for 2+ years of this time.  Wish I had a solid straight answer.
Its funny though, because I have recently felt that the jug is not filling up?  Thinking either I am using credit card more and my lunches and other cash purchases are coming out more even and/or with less change.  :-\

Sorry I haven"t been around for the past couple of days. Going through a two fisted pet crisis. A cat and a dog that might not be too far from going over the Rainbow Bridge. When it rains, it pours. Forgive me.

No luck anywhere on the change counter machines at CU's and banks. Guess they don't want to deal with it anymore. Coinstar is out of the question. Too many mentions of inaccuracies. And they take 7.9% profit to screw up. No thank you.
Will probably just check into buying a machine and doing it ourselves.

My condolences on the pets. My oldest dog (about 12-1/2) has been having problems too. I suspect he's not going to be around this time next year.  :(

Depends  on the cost of the equipment  at $7.90 per hundred you would have to have somewhere around $500 in order to break even if the machine cost is $40. Then you have a boat anchor hanging around. Unless you sold it on eBay or Craigslist, but that's a lot of time and trouble.

At the risk of going off thread, things have been rough here for the past few days. The Readers Digest version...
We did lose our elder kitty last Saturday. Kiwi (Siamese cat) was almost 13 and internal organs were starting to shut down. Old age. We just couldn't let it continue. RIP.
Karma however (see avatar) has improved a great deal. She doesn't seem to be in much pain due to the calcium buildup in her spine (common problem to GSD's) and is doing well. Appreciate your concern.

Good point. And I already thought of that. There is everything from pennies, to half dollar coins, to Susan B. Anthony dollar coins in this jug. At best figure, over $1000.00. The coin machines I had the time to look at could sort the one dollar coins but not the half dollars. Shouldn't be a big deal to count those by hand. A $50 dollar investment into a sorting machine of "decent" quality I don't care about. I could lend it out to family as needed. Whatever.

No US Bank or Wells Fargo around.

Sad new about your cat. Hope doggy feeling better. Pets are subject h a huge part of the family. So much pleasure but so much pain when they are ill or leave. Hugs.

No kids in the family to count the cash? Our nephews counted some we had, for a small fee of course  :D

I also started with a glass water bottle in the 5 gal size and it too broke one day.  Then switch over to one of those popcorn tins you see around Christmas time. It's now to heavy to lift.  I never use change to make a purchase but put only silver type coins in the can and pennies in other containers like qt jars-have several of them. Always thought I would turn it in when a I retired and buy a special something.  Retired now but, haven't found that special item yet.  I did fine a Dodge Charger but think I need a few more cans.  I have a qt jar with only quarter in it and it came to $200.

Nope.

Ironic you should say that. When I started this thread, I mentioned the DW was sorting some change. It's a stupid plastic container that was some packaging from something I bought years ago. It's about a third of the size of a tennis shoe box. I just kept throwing my pocket change into it after that. When full, I dumped it into the plastic water cooler jug. The jug is just about full, the stupid plastic container was full, so she sorted and rolled up the stupid one. $146.00 in that little container! I couldn't believe it!
I think buying a counter would be the best bet.

When the dust settles a little, I'll get back to finding a counter that fits the bill.
