Rig: 37 ft fifth wheel (Grand Design Reflection 337rls)

This is will be our 5th RV voyage and our first time in the mountains with an RV. I'm nervously planning our route (using Good Sam Trip Planner) and would like your opinion on if I'm planning a safe route. We're traveling about 4 hrs per day and planning extended stops Sante Fe and Taos on the outbound journey. We travel with 2 dogs, so we take our time. I'm not necessarily looking for the fastest route. I'm more interested in safe, scenic, low traffic areas. Thanks so much for your input.

OUTBOUND - Central Texas to Eagle Nest, New Mexico
...Central Texas to Lubbock
Lubbock 84 to Clovis
Clovis 84/60 to Fort Sumner
Fort Sumner 84 to 40 into Santa Rosa
Santa Rose 40/84 to 285 at Clines Corner
Clines Corner 285 to 25 into Santa Fe
Santa Fe 285/84 to Espanola
Espanola 68 to Taos
Taos 64 to Eagle Nest (I'm nervous about 64, but there doesn't seem to be another way)

RETURN TRIP:
Eagle Nest 64 to Cimarron
Cimarron 58 to 25 continuing into Springer
Springer 56/412 to Clayton
Clayton 87 to Dalhart
Dalhart 87/385 to Dumas
Dumas 87/287 to Amarillo
Amarillo back to central Texas...

As I remember, trip from Taos to Eagles Nest won't be bad.  Right out of Eagles Nest to Cimrron canyon, you will have a pretty good drop into the canyon. Take it easy and gear down and their will be a couple of good turns but the road is fine itself.  I've lived in springer and the canyon drive is beautiful into Cimarron.
