Vendor for Replacement Interior Decorative Lights
« on: June 27, 2016, 04:23:33 PM »
We are doing some interior remodeling and I want to replace the light fixture over the dining table, as well as its matching wall sconce. I believe these need to be 12-volt lights (???). I'm having problems finding an online vendor...even looked at E-Bay and Amazon. Anybody got a "go-to" source? Can I use "any old" fixture that I like from any store or do my replacement lights have to be just 12-volt?

Well you'd have to make sure that a 12 volt bulb would fit the light fixture. Camping World has a number of fixtures.

The information is out there, all you have to do is let it in.

Thanks, Happy Prospector, but we went to our local CW just yesterday and they didn't have much in stock, and any I did like was told would take some time to get. I was worried about ordering anything that "would take some time" due to upcoming holiday...so I'll just keep looking. We are about to launch as full-timers so just want to git'r done!

Amazon, ebay and a parts catalog from PPL in Houston Tx is what I use most and rockauto.com for truck parts.                                                 http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/interior-rv-lights-thin-lites-light-bulbs.htm

Buy a regular light fixture from anywhere. You just need to get the 12v bulbs that will fit them. I did this in my bathroom with fixtures I made out of rum bottles, and in my living area with a light I found at thrift store. I found screw in 12v bulbs from a marine store online. They had an infinite variety of sizes US and European styles. I am usually plugged in to shore power, but I wanted to be able to still use my lights when traveling between parks and boondocking. When I first did my bathroom lights and used regular bulbs they worked great, until I unplugged lol-now with the 12v bulbs all is well. I bought a bunch extra for when they burned out, but it has been nearly two years and they are still good. Just be aware that the wattage isn't the same as for regular bulbs. I bought some 40 watt and some 15 watt. The 15 watt are bright, comparable to a 40 watt regular bulb (The bathroom fixture took three and it is well lit). The 40 watt are very bright and I would only use them if the fixture need one bulb.

Marine stores generally have a better selection of 12v light fixtures. You will likely find brass and chrome as well as the ubiquitous white plastic, and better quality stuff as well. Not inexpensive, though!  Just Google 'marine 12v light fixture'

Here are a couple:

I bought replacement lights at lowes and depot, took the old ones apart to get the 12v part and attached it to the new one, about a 10 minute procedure and my choices increased and cost was much less.
