We have a 2001 Coachmen Santara Class C. We have had such a time trying to get it fixed. Coachmen even split the cost with us. The bill was 1600.00 BUT it has been in and out of the shop 5 times. They keep taking off the fiberglass and adding extra support underneath then resealing, on the trip back to the rv dealer it cracks again. They say this is common, but yetthey can't get it fixed. The cracks are above the drivers side where the bunk curves over the drivers door, and then further up perpendicular to the slideout trim. We were wondering if anyone else has experienced this or are still experiencing this?? NOw they want to cut out a portion of the framing and put in a flexible material and then a piece of molding on top.  We can't be the only ones withthis problem. AND BTW this was not caused by water getting in the roof, that miraculously is (knock on wood) sealed and dry.
email me if you know about this or have this problem too.

Clearly something in the structure is flexing enough to cause repeated breaks.  If this problem is not endemic to your make and model (I haven't heard it mentioned before), then there may well be some fundamental defect in your rig's framing, something deep inside rather than at the surface where the crack appears.

Using flexible material may work, since obviously trying to stiffen it does not.  It's a reasonable thing to try, at any rate.  If that fails as well, talk to Coachman again. It appears they have admitted at least some responsibility for the problem, so I'd be asking for them to participate in getting you a replacement coach that won't break. You won't get a new one for free, but you might get a nice credit towards a new one.

Sounds as if the unit isbinding somewhere.  Perhaps one side of the slide is shorter than the other or the one isde is binding causing it  to twist a bit.

The RV is out of warranty, itis a 2001. Coachmen said they would help us with this problem but that's it b/c it's out of the warranty period. We were stupid because when it was new we had other issues and didn't pursue the lemon law. Caochmen will help fix a unit but when you talk about replacement, they become deaf.
