Following is a quote from Gary RV Roamer regarding rallies: "It's sort of a "build it and they will come" kind of thing".

So Eric and I would like to "build" a September caravan/rally event for the Minnesota North Shore.  Right now we are thinking 3 to 4 days near Duluth, MN and 3 to 4 days near Grand Marais, MN.  Any input from fellow Minnesotans and other interested RVers would be welcome.  (Dates, campgrounds, sites to see, etc.)

There are many, many things to do and see between Duluth and Grand Marais.  Plus fall is a beautiful time to visit Minnesota.  Following is a link to North Shore Visitors Guide:  http://www.northshorevisitor.com/

If you might be interested or have suggestions, please let us know.

Our plan is to head back to Lake Havasu in September.  It might be fun to attend your mini ralley before leaving Minnesota.

I will be interested in the plans as they develop.

I am planning to come up to the North Shore in September so I might be interested.

The North Shore is absolutely gorgeous. Gran Marais  is a fun town, artsy and good restaurants.  Northern Minnesota is absolutely a beautiful place to visit. The state parks are well kept  and managed.  My cousin who is an artist and from Colorado could not believe how beautiful it was around the North Shore. I think people think a Minnesota as cold and bypass the state. It's actually very beautiful .

Living up here we sometimes take the area for granted. We never camp around here so I'm  no help there. I do know there is a lack of good campgrounds in the Duluth area. Depending how many folks are coming the campground in Grand Marais is very convenient and large enough to accommodate a group.
http://grandmaraisrecreationarea.com/index.htm I have heard it is a nice place but have never stayed there only driven by many times. September is a great time but can be very iffy on the weather especially on the banks of the big Lake. I would say earlier in the month rather than later. Nothing like the Angry Trout for lunch then walk to the Worlds best Donuts for desert.. :)

Depending on the date that is set for this gathering, we may be able to stop by and introduce ourselves and say Hi.
We will be in, of all places, Grand Marais MI sometime in September.
I will keep an eye on this thread for dates, our dates haven't been etched in stone - yet.

Yes a North Shore Rally sounds like fun to us. By that time I'm retired but have nothing on the calendar yet. Keep us in the loop.

We totally like the whole north Shore but specially Grand Marais, it sounds a bit French and looks like a French harbor too. We once stayed two nights in a light house in Two Harbors, that was awesome too. My first trip to Minnesota was to the North Shore in 2000, we then rented a cabin.

Thanks Evil,
The Grand Marais RV Park and Campground is on the top of my list.  I plan to call them tomorrow. I've also heard good things about the Angry Trout and the Worlds Best Donuts.

How far do you live from Grand Marais? Your suggestions for must see sites and eateries are welcome.    I noticed North House Folk School is holding its annual Unplugged XV event Sept. 15 to 18.  Have you ever attended that event?

I'm about 1 1/2 hours from Grand Marais. I'm 20 miles North of Two Harbors off Hwy2 on Marble Lake.  We usually ride the motorcycle up there 1 or 2 times a summer. I worked in Silver Bay and my wife worked in Schroeder so are familiar with the shore. We've  never been to the Folk School but  have heard thatevent does draw a crowd. Don't know if that would be a problem for availability at the campground or not. There is lots of good food and artsy type shopping in and around town. http://www.naniboujou.com/ supposed to be worth the trip. Of course for us it is more of the nature and ruggedness of the shore. All of the rivers and falls Gooseberry, Cascade, etc. Split rock lighthouse, Palisade head.  a run up the Gunflint trail. Lutsen mountain for a Gondola ride and or alpine slide Northshore Mining used to have tours (I retired from there 7 years ago) to see how the Iron ore process to Taconite pellets for shipping. Grand Portage with the fort and Casino. Lots to see and do. I'm sure there is lots of tourist info online.

I talked with the person at Grand Marais RV Park and Campground and he said the fall colors are best at the end of September and the beginning of October.  In the next few days I will post more after Eric and I decide on exact dates.

For those who are interested in the Minnesota North Shore Rally that information has been pinned to the Rally Board. ;D

LOL.  He's had one for some time  He's just the silent type.  Hopefully you can make it to the rally.  Hope all is going well in Monticello.
