My FIL has a 1984 F150 and I would like to figure out how much it can tow. I looked at the door sticker but it only gives a gvwr non gvwr?

Probably not going to find detailed info for anything that old. There will be several different tow ratings (GCWR) based on factors like engine, transmission, 2WD/4WD, rear axle, and bed length (wheel base). If he is talking about a travel or utility trailer, I would guess no more than 5000 lbs, and even that may be stretching it for an old suspension and drive train. If he is considering a 5W, I would just say "No way". The payload is as much a limiting factor as the tow rating.

As usual, Gary is right.

You can determine the Payload by getting the truck weighed.  Payload  =  GVWR  -  actual weight.  Check the tire load rating, too.  Is this number X 4 tires greater than GVWR?

Remember this is a 33 year old truck, with 33 years of wear, tear and rust.

Fifth wheel - NO WAY.  probably up to 5000# of TT or utility trailer, nothing more.
