My insurance carrier sent me a newsletter with an link to a video of a RV crash involving a Class A RV pulling a tow vehicle.  The incident was caught on a dash cam on a vehicle that was being passed by the RV.

It a sobering video to be sure, but it does provide fuel for discussion on handling a blowout while driving an RV.

I was just reading an article yesterday on the proper way to stop a vehicle with a tire failure.  Speed up until the motorhome has recovered.  Then slow down and pull over.  In looking at the video, it doesn't appear that the driver applied the brakes.

Not sure if he was trying to or not.  Just before the vehicle goes into the center meridian you can see the carcus of the tire go by, most likely the left front tire.  Braking would have exacerbated the hard pull to the left if the front tire blew. The rig didn't look that old.  No telling how old the tires were.

There are things other than age that can blow a tire.  Road debris for example has cost me at least one tire.  And Rim. (Car type I kept it between the lines.. JUST Guy behind me was not so lucky)
