Acorns on the roof

I moved on Saturday and I am spending my first day in the new fiver today. Only a few acorns hit the roof and it is a windy day. I jumped about a foot when the acorns hit and I would never get used to it. But I have six months to figure it out. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. ;D

Gotta kind of feel for you Tom.  We put a new metal patio roof up and had shingles put on the top to squash the noise of heavy rain and light hail.  No close trees.  Am I correct in recalling that oak trees do not produce acorns every year?  I seem to remember years without that problem.

Every oak tree that has been in my yards produced every year. The amount produced may vary though.

Don't know about the acorns but I used to love the sound of rain hitting the tin roof at the hunting camp, kinda lulls you into a deep sleep.

I'm in southwest FL and jut had a woodpecker jackhammer my roof! Climbed up and chased him off, hope that's the last we see of him.

You might have to put an owl scarecrow on the roof to keep him away.

Might work for a short time but the doves land on his head now so I took him down. Maybe if he is absent for awhile and then shows back up maybe???????

Acorns are more like hail than raindrops. Much sharper report, and sounds like it's doing damage.

[edit] What got me upset one trip was after hearing the acorns fall at night, I was awakened early in the morning by squirrels scampering on the roof to collect them.

I can agree on that, had a bad thunderstorm one night at the hunting camp and it hailed.....It sounded like the whole roof was going to let go :(

I would also be worried about critters tucking acorns into other spots.

I once had a Saturn and used to park under a tree that produced a lot of acorns.  This was at my mother's home on Lake Huron.  I used to drive up after work every Friday and drive home on Sunday night.  One day I took it in for some kind of mechanical repair.  After an hour, the mechanic came to find me in the dealer lounge and asked me, "Lady, do you know you have a lot of acorns in your engine?"  (Like I prefer to drive around that way!)  Turns out he had to remove a bucketful of acorns that a squirrel or chipmunk had tucked into every little spot he could find in the engine compartment. I imagine the critter was disappointed every Sunday evening to have his hoard drive away until the next weekend, but apparently he persevered.

Count your blessings! We've got three tall cone producing pine trees that have about a 50 foot free fall to the roof. We've about adjusted to giant crackers going off on the roof, but Toby is still traumatized every time one hits.

I just hope your cats don't freak out from the acorns hitting the roof.
My cats don't freak out over an acorn, but when a big log hit my roof one of my cats drew blood on me.

I had to smile when I read that thread Tom as I recall the acorn thread well. We had that problem with a new sunroom that had a metal roof directly under an oak tree.  We thought it was a war going on when those little missiles fell.  The dog and cat were traumatized.

I got a good smile too Bill, that is why I reposted it. So far in the first six months there has only been one acorn. :))

Fall is coming.  ;D
