We're thinking about getting a home security system to keep an eye on our house while we snowbird in FL. Without breaking the bank anyone have any they would recommend.

Ditto on Ned

We have had Simplisafe for about four years. Very satisfied. You install it yourself. Buy what you need, no contracts to sign.

Ned, I take it you have this system. Is that right?

No, but everything I've read about it is positive.

Simplisafe for sure, we have had ours for a couple of years, very happy with it.  You can configure it any way you want, install it your self, no contract $15 a month for monitoring.  It has smart phone alerts, just a bunch of options, check it out.

I looked at Simplisafe first but decided to go with ADT because their base unit has more programming options.  One of which was the ability to 'follow' on' a chain of sensors.  So, for instance, if someone opens my garage door and the interior door doesn't open within 15 seconds the alarm goes off.  I have two control pads, primary in the master bedroom and secondary in the family room. Two keyfobs. And access from all, of our smart phones and tablets.

Another important thing to me was a variety of communications options with the response center.  Several cellular carriers, hard wired traditional phone lines, VOIP, TCP-IP and probably more that I've forgotten.

Their window & door sensors allowed me to use my existing hidden switches & magnets.  Not sure if SS does that.

ADT is not the low cost provider by any means.  But my experience has been very positive with them.

This is timely info since DH just informed me he wants to buy a home security system before we take our next trip.

Joke Alert... The PK9 Security system.

Burglar breaks into house.. he's filling his pillow case with silver when he hears a voice:
"Jesus is watching you"

He freezes, looks around carefully, sees nothing and goes back to work..
Again he hears "Jesus is watching you".

Again he sees nothing and returns to work, and again he hears "Jesus is watching you"
This time though he figures out the source, a Myna bird in a cage

He addresses the bird: So what you may be watching me but what can you do about it, and what kind of stupid owner names his bird Jesus anyway?

The bird replies: Oh, my name is not Jesus, My name is Moses

The burglar then says "Ok then what kind of stupid owner names his bird Moses?

The Bird replies: Same kind as names his Rottweiler Jesus,,,, and Jesus is watching you.

Now,, at this point, we have one PROPERLY ALARMED burglar.
