We don't normally stay at KOA parks for reasons stated previously. But, on our recent return trip, we found an exceptional KOA park outside Dallas. Shortly after our stay I received a survey from KOA headquarters and, after completing the survey, chose to send the following email. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a response and a promise to forward my comments to the owners.

I suspect that a big reason for the significantly different performance is the fact that this KOA is owned and operated by a couple who are determined to make it work and continually improve it.

I just completed the online survey regarding my stay at Dallas NE/Caddo Mills KOA, but feel I need to add these comments:

This was by far the most efficient and friendly check-in I have experienced at any campground anywhere over the last 20 years. My experience at a number of other KOA's and many private campgrounds has not been anywhere near the same.

The owners were both pleasant and willing to go out of their way to provide additional service. This has not been my experience at most other KOAs I've stayed at. Usually, KOA campground staff run around in their yellow golf carts but not helping customers. Not so at Caddo Mills; The owners roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes to satisfy customers.

This KOA is a model that should be copied at other KOA locations.

Tom:

Since we are from the Dallas area, this information is good to know.  I'll have to visit there.  Perhaps when folks are coming through, I can refer them to that KOA.

Hi Ron,

Not mentioned in the email, but covered in the survey, were things like ease of entry/exit to sites, a clean park and a host of other things. I'd have no hesitation recommending the park to anyone.

Not all KOAs are poorly run, but many are poorly laid out for today's big rigs and generally more expensive than comparable campgrounds.  Another exception was the Barstow/Calico KOA we stayed at last week for 2 nights.  The checkin was pleasant and we had easy access to our site.  And they had free WiFi internet access that really worked, with at least 2 access points placed properly in the park.  It was so good, we didn't use the Datastorm for our stay there.

If we keep this up, KOA will become the CG of choice around here  ;D

It was a good KOA but the main reason we stayed there was because it was close to our friends and it was to hot to stay in their yard.

That was true of me also Ron, until I stayed at this park. Definitely an exceptional KOA. OTOH I'm not about to rush out and renew my KOA membership.

My parents also enjoyed the Barstow KOA when they were on their way south this winter.

Good to know there is one good KOA

Well here's another.  Terre Haute KOA, IN.  Park has been redone  for big rigs.  Check in was quickly and friendly.  While we were sitting up we had 3 golf carts, stop and ask if we needed help, or was there anything they could do.

Very positive experience.  We stopped for an overnight, but I would recommend this park.

We have 3 KOA's in Mich. which are on the top 25 parks in the USA list.  KOA is trying to make improvements, and be competitive.  Things Change.  Give them a chance.

Thanks for the info.  It would be great if you would cut-and-paste your review over at www.rvparkreviews.com.
