I just checked your album; now you've started something! Here is a photo of our 1983 34' Pace Arrow that we owned for 16 years and drove 113,000 miles. I can't tell you all the great memories we have of trips in the Pace. :-X It was nicknamed the Taj (Taj Mahal) because of all the room we had with three kids after moving up from our second m/h, a 1970 21' Glastron.

Wendy - I luv the Bug.  What year? I'm guessing '72.  After having restored two myself ('65 and a black '68), I really wanted one as a toad.  The other half was adamant against it, wanting a little more comfort, A/C and 4 doors.  My head still turns at any and all old bugs - I salivate a nice black ones like yours.

Good eye BT. It is a 72. We bought it 3 weeks before we left for the winter figuring it would be easier to tow than the Explorer/dolly, and it is. Although Mike brought all his tools with him so he can work on it on the road. We're enjoying it but it seems to be smaller than the '72 bug we had when we were in our 20s....or maybe we're just bigger? BTW, the bug is actually a dark burgundy cooler. I thought it was chocolate brown when we bought it.

Tom, our mh is there, but I don't know how it got there, as I didn't post it.  Terry B. took the picture probably about Jan. 1998 or 1999 at Anza Borrego, across from Peg Leg Pete's.  Though we had seen the rainbow from the other side-windows, we didn't know Terry had taken the picture until he gave us a copy.  We have one framed inside our mh.  What a beautiful shot.  We always have felt the end of that rainbow is right where it should be.  It is our pot-o-gold..... :D

Our family's 1994 Thor Residency, on our maiden voyage in June '07 in Niagara Falls, NY.  And the second photo is a favorite of mine, when we were on another trip in southern IL and we met up with our dearly-departed Shayne and his Pace Arrow before it was sold... if there is perhaps another place in the album where that could be placed.

Hold that thought Scott. We have a memorial page (http://www.rvforum.net/SMF_forum/index.php?action=Friends) for departed forum members. But, like your photo, we have several additional photos by which we could remember our friends. Let me look around and maybe sleep on it, and it might make sense to create an album instead of, or in addition to, that page.

BTW, to resize a photo with any version of Windows click on Start>Programs>Accessories>Paint and then open the photo and click on Image>Resize and set the percentage to a lower value such as 80%, then save the photo. If it still isn't small enough then repeat the process until it is. Alternately you can right click on the image and select Open with... Paint.

"On the tweaking side, we might be looking for a lot of work that is not necessary except for a few images.  Let me look at a couple more of the albums and decide if we need to tweak many or just a few.  If it is just a few, then I can simply download them myself and re-send them back to you."

I haven't received any adjusted images from you, other than the one of you at White Sands, and I replaced that one. Did you send them to me  ???  The last email I received from you was 1/1/2009 saying:

"On the tweaking side, we might be looking for a lot of work that is not necessary except for a few images.  Let me look at a couple more of the albums and decide if we need to tweak many or just a few.  If it is just a few, then I can simply download them myself and re-send them back to you."

Tom:  I've looked at many and we will only have to tweak a few.  The ones I'm most concerned about are the ones that are under exposed and hard to get any detail.

Yes, if you want to attach them to a message. Attachment limit = 250K.

Which Tom? Our current coach is there in the album, as is our prior coach, and my photo is in every one of my messages  ;)

Tom & Margi's coach is there too.

I was thinking of Tom the owner of the place. I did not look in the album, just in the thread.

I guess we're not going to be going to any neat places in the near future where we can take a picture of our trailer, so while I was exercising some of my tractors today, Betty took a picture.  I guess it'll have to do until I remember to take another one.

Betty calls the picture "Larry and some of his Toys".

The photo is real.  I did have to take two photos while standing in the same spot as I could not move back far enough to get the whole photo and use Panorama factory to tie them together.  The photo is what we saw with no special photoshop expertise needed.

One of the best and easiest ways if you have Windows XP is a power toy called "Image Resizer" CLICK HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx).  This is an unsupported (by Microsoft) tool where you just right click on your image and pick the size you want to resize to.  Very easy and quick.  If you are using Vista, the same ease (though a couple of more steps and more options available) is called VSO Image Resizer CLICK HERE (http://www.vso-software.fr/products/image_resizer/).

One more tip.  Don't resize an already resized jpg file, always use the original.  Each time you save a jpg, it loses some resolution.  Your last image seems to be resized from the previous jpg and that one from the earlier one.  That's why it looks a bit fuzzy.  Start with the original image from the camera and resize it to 800x600 or so and see what a difference it makes.

Title: Re: Photos of members' rigs
Post by: Tom on March 15, 2009, 07:33:55 PM
Your choice Steve. Ned's explanation was why I was asking about the resolution of the original picture; I thought you might have taken a small image and tried to upsize it, resulting in the apparent fuzziness.

That is a nice looking Pace Arrow, reminds me of my last MH that was a 1989 something. What I do remember is that it was a 37', 1989, 460 Ford on a John Deere chassis, had Overland on the outside, was made by Mallard or Fleetwood??  Anyway, same lines as yours and was a dream to drive.

I found a picture last night and thought I would post it up. This was taken in 1996 and I sold it in 1997.

Here is a picture of our rig. The truck is a 2000 Volvo 660 highway tractor, Volvo 12.1 lt engine, 425 hp and 1550 ft/lbs of torque. I bought it in 2005 with 850,000 miles on it. I converted it to a single axle and had the deck built. It has a 66" bunk on it with a fridge, TV, microwave and coffee maker. I carry a 350 gal water tank and my Polaris 700 Sportsman quad on the deck. The trailer is a 2006 Forest River Canadian sport (see list of mods below), in the 10 ft garage I carry the wifes Polaris 300 Explorer quad, a gas pressure washer, a full size BBQ chain saw ect, ect. And last but not least is my 1994 Jeep YJ. We enjoy random camping in the mountans and go as often as we can. Below is a picture of us in the Crowsnest Pass in Southern Alberta with Crowsnest mountain in the background.

Mods I have done to my 5th wheel :
1) Installed thermopane windows (not offerd from factory)
2) Installed 2nd 35000 btu furnace in garage
3) Installed custom aluminum checkerplate cabnets and cloths hooks in garage
4) Installed 2nd window in garage so I can use it as an office on location when I work
5) Remove standard hide a bed and replace with lazy-boy recliners
6) remove standard 27" TV and replace with 37" Plazma TV
7) Install Cruise TV auto aquire satilite TV system
8 ) Replace 5500 watt Onan Marquies Gold genset with Onan 5500 watt Marquis Platnum fuel injected genset (I had the Platnum in my old trailer)
9) install 3000 watt inverter with 130 amp smart battery charger ( I had an Onan inverter but it was junk)
10) Install 3 100 watt solar pannals with 25 amp charge controller
11) Install 6 Trojan T105 6 volt golf cart battries
12) Install SurFlow 5.5 GPM variable demand water pump
13) Replace factory bed matress with True Form memory foam matress
14) Install 13500 btu air conditioner in bedroom (15000 btu as main AC)
15) Install 12000 btu Olimpic catilitic heater in living area
16) Install Max Air vent covers on all vents
17) install wireless back up camera on rear of trailer (One also on back of truck)
18) Install class 3 hitch and wireing on back of trailer for pulling my Jeep YJ as a towed vehical
19) got rid of those god awfull chinese tires and installed 6 Michlin XPS Rib tires

Must be.  I use a equalizer hitch system, standard set up.  Plus, the truck was moving when the picture was taken.  My friend Jim took the picture when I was rolling in.  I did have the air bags set up a bit higher then normal.  Wolf Creek is a state park, and I'm thinking the water tank was full.  No water hook-up at this State Park.

We are having a great time, and I thought I was free from snow when we moved from the northeast to the south.  However, the opportunity to be here in Yellowstone since May has been priceless.  Well worth the few days of cold weather.  Besides, I wanted to get some pictures of Yellowstone in the snow.  Hopefully the weather stays cold the next couple days, we are off and it will give me a chancce to get shots of the elk in the snow.

Thanks.

We bought this 2008 Fleetwood Excursion 40X in New Hampshire in December (2008) and drove it home to Central Florida. It's parked in a 55+ community while I wait for retirement (January 1st). Until then we are getting used to living in an RV (as well as getting the warranty bugs worked out). We have dumped the stick and brick and are chomping at the bit to get on the road. I spent the last 39 + years working for the Navy. It’s time…

I have attached a photo of our first motohome, Smokey 1. It was a 1994 HR Imperial diesel, 36ft.

The photo is from ebay where it sold recently. I know it is our original rig because it has an extra 12" added to the kitchen which we had HR change, the counter top is raised by an inch and a half (I removed the countertop and added 1 1/2 in oak trim stained to match to raise it) and the booth dinette is cut back to be 8" narrower so we could have a wider aisle. These all show in the ebay pictures along with other changes we made. This involve cutting a seat belt bolt at the plywood where it was in a shallow hole in the hardwood flooring. The I had to amke a custom patch to fill the hardwood. I got the wood from HR. Never could see the patch.

This isn't so much about the rig, but where it is.

There are a few reasons they discourage RV's from Yosemite Creek Campground. Mainly the road (logging trail?) going in/out and the extremely close proximity of the trees.

We have work to do on both to use them.  One is going to have new paneling put in the living room and I have my handyman living in it right now.  He is putting up a fence next week in lieu of rent, then is starting on the paneling.  That is the one of the interior picture.

Here's what hubby tows the Silvers with at times.  A Lincoln is as you know a glorified Ford.  But this one has a greater towing capacity.  However, if he would tow them more he would get a bigger truck.

By the way, that's MINE ;D, has about 36k miles on it and is a 2006.  He is home so seldom, he is keeping the 2001 till he retires, only puts about 3k on it a year.

This is our 2000 Jayco Designer 2730W at Silver Bell RV Park in Rogersville, MO.  We were on our way home after "taking delivery" from Ginger's grandmother.

The van in the corner is our 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan.  It's too heavy too pull, so Ginger drives it while I drive the rig.  Hopefully we can change that situation and get a suitable toad in the near future.

Nice looking rig Kburlar!

Great to have you join us.  Apparently you have been into RVing for a while.  Please feel at ease joining any of our discussions.  It is also a good place to ask questions or ask for troubleshooting advice.  It is a G R E A T   place to meet new friends who share your enthusiasm for RVing, too.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcome.

We tented for a couple of years and then moved to a pop up for one year.  Then the big jump from the pop up to the class C.  We decided to skip the expandable trailer, the travel trailer and the 5th wheel.  There is always time for those later, but for now... We love this RV.  It was really sad to winterize it.

This site is great and we check it daily.

The picture of our camper was taken at the Clarno Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument near Clarno, OR.

Thanks.  I was really surprised that the park was nearly empty being that it was a beautiful weekend in the 60's.  I think some people may have decided not to go camping because it was opening season for deer hunting.  This park property adjoins the state land management property where considerable hunting takes place.  We went canoeing the next morning on the lake and heard a lot of shotguns.

Looks like two new ones!  :D

:D The Wilderness was a 2000 and actually in pretty good shape overall - faded decals and the like but looked good from the outside. Unfortunately it had a water leak that could not be traced for over 2 years. The water ended up rotting the bathroom walls and floor and I finally just got sick of making repairs. I sold it to a carpenter looking for a remodeling project so it worked out for both of us.

1988 Layton 16 ft trailer. Perfect with toddlers.
1972 11.5ft. Holiday Rambler Truck Camper. Mint condition, it was my Father's camper. Kids outgrew the dinette pretty fast and had to sleep in a tent.
1990 27 ft. Jamboree. Our current rig, perfect for our family with teenagers who are active in sports!

Here's a pic of our 96 Damon UltraSport. This old girl isn't much, but she's our first coach and we absolutely love her. I really can't see us ever not having a MH again. Since we purchased her a year ago we've put around 3,000 miles on her.. Making several trips up to Fayetteville, AR for Razorback games as well as Little Rock, AR and Memphis, TN. We're planning on trips to Athens, GA and Auburn, AL this coming football season. After her current renovations are complete, we're heading up to Fayetteville for a few baseball weekends.

BTW.. the purple stripes are about to be removed.. undercarriage will be repainted as well.. that purple HAS to go.. :)

This is my 1997 Coachmen Catalina.  For the wife and I, a queen size bed in the back, while up front, opposing jackknife couches for the kids.  Tons of storage underneath and cabinets galore inside.  My old class C didn't have the awning and I love having that feature on this one.  It takes a bit of getting used to driving, being a LOT bigger than anything else I've ever had.   This pic was taken July 3rd, on the Bay in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Ed, if it gets to 60 I sweat enough to flood the Mississippi River.  ;D  I really didn't expect it to be that cold and white when I pulled in there the day after Thanksgiving, tho. I was there for 3 weeks and it snowed 25 inches and almost got down to -20F. I think it was -17 on my truck thermometer when I took that picture.

Thanks edjunior.  Over the years we have pulled numerous TT while the kids were growing up.  Later, my wife and I graduated to a 38' American Eagle that we traveled all over the US in.  For some reason we got away from camping, sold the MH and now, ten years later, have regressed back to a trailer and love it.  We will take our second trip next Sunday to Palo Duro Canyon.  The Ford Excursion with its V10 is a great tow vehicle.  The Ford and the TT weigh about the same, so it makes a good combination.

No such thing as a small unit, or a big unit.  If it fits you, then it is the perfect unit.  Not to big, not to small.  Our first 5th wheel was a 1977 or 78 Country Squire 22 foot 5th wheel.  Enjoy your unit.

Wow!  Awesome... I must tell this story...  The name of your unit brings back some serious memories...  While in the Corps, we bought a buddy's Jeep, since it was capable, we went down to MWR at Pendleton and rented a "Scamp", it could not have been more than 12' long, loaded her up for a long weekend at Delmar Beach, wife and 2 year old wondering "why" we would leave the house in a small box and head down the hill.  Well, that was the start of our RV adventures, had a wonderful time!  That is until my 2yr old wandered next door while the grill was burning..... once the "fire" was out... where is the kid?  Long story short... the older couple next to us in a motor home were having the time of their life.... with our daughter going through their motor home cabinets playing with the pots' n pans'!!  We were hooked... seems lately we'd rather be camping than at home.  Sorry for the story.... just brought back some memories!

jje1960:

We went from a 13' Scamp to our 19' so that we could stay in it for extended periods of time which we did last summer.  We picked her up at the factory in April and lived in it until October.  Not many shower houses open in the winter in Wisconsin.

Here is our humble TT.  It is a 2003 Wildwood 25RSLT.  It has four bunks up front and a rear pullout that is a double bed.  This picture is at Jellystone Park at Daddy Joe's in Tabor City, NC.  A great, friendly place.

I've been rather tardy in adding photos of folks' RVs to our photo gallery (click the Photos link above). One reason/excuse was the need to upgrade our photo albums software, which I finally got around to doing in the wee hours of last night. I'll try to get caught up with uploading photos over the remainder of the week.

Discovery 40X.  Our kids are grown, so we opted for the 40X.  Probably 95% of the time will be my wife and I only.  It does have a queen size fold out hide a bed and a single bed (slightly larger that normal single).  We are enjoying it, but have had some leveling problems and miscellaneous problems.

Here is our first fiver the day we brought it home.  Its a little dirty in this picture, but it cleaned up real well with a little elbow grease.

It was given to us by my wifes parents, they bought a bigger unit that sits on a campsite year around so they never used this one.  Its an 1998 Aerolite Seven. Its older and only a 24 footer, but we really enjoy using it.

We had a minor mishap...my DH thought he could turn it in a parking lot and sort of "rolled" over a huge boulder!  We're getting it fixed soon, parts had to be ordered...etc.  We were both pretty upset especially since it's only 4 months old!!!  Just glad he was the first one to do it!!! LOL

We just bought our first RV, a Fleetwood Storm w/41K miles, 25' on her and the inside is beautiful and the body is in great shape but thinking about getting it re-stripped but most people say, just enjoy it the way it is. I just like nice! hehe

We will have our first outing over labor day weekend.

Clean looking Allegro.  I looked at a 1982 back in 1996 when we were looking for our first motorhome and really liked the Allegro look but the fading was something I couldn't get past.  A friend of mine bought the one that I was looking at and I polished it out for him.  It looked good for about three years and then faded back again.

Yours looks awesome.  Enjoy and welcome to the forum.

We just returned home from our first couple nights staying in the new MH at the Terrace Village RV Park in Grand Terrace, CA. We had to take the MH back to the dealership for some repairs before going on our 1st real vacation later this month to northern California. This was a small RV park where most of the residents were fulltimers and everyone was really friendly and they stopped by to help answer some of our questions and lend a hand when we appeared confused. ??? I just posted a few photos to my new blog so feel free to check it out.

Thought I'd post up a shot of my MH... it's not a custom, one-off, double throw down, triple step over rig, but it works for me and my family.

It's a 2001 with a grand total of 7,000 miles and change on it... I had to lay it up for many years, due to health issues.

Anyway, it's in the shop now, getting a thorough going over, 'cause I can get around well enough to begin enjoying it again... WooHoo!

Hopefully, I'll be able to post up some photos of it in it's natural habitiat... somewhere other than my driveway.

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii36/honu_2008/DSC_0476copy-1.jpg

Fortunately, I've been able to keep it clean and polished... so that's something I'm not going to have to spend the next 6 months doing.  (lol)

Thanks for the advice... but it's not going so well.  I right clicked, opened the little window, then clicked on "copy".  When I opened the "Reply" box here, then right clicked to open the "paste" box, that option isn't highlighted... can't transfer the image.

Keep in mind, I'm an absolute computer moron (my wife tells me that's not the only thing I'm a moron at... but I digress), so I'm sure the problem is a the loose nut behind the keyboard.

I'll have to have my daughter show me where I'm going wrong... unless I stumble across the proper method by accident.

Thanks...

Just thought I'd post a pic of our first RV other than the VW campers we had. It is a 1983 35 ft Kountry Aire 5th Wheel that we had custom built.
We towed it with a Ford E350 Econoline Centurion RV Cutaway. The pic I posted is not the one we owned but it shows what it looked like.
In the pic of the 5th Wheel you can see the first TV satellite dish we bought from Camping World. You also see the VW bus we had that Wend drove following me,
The pic is in Florida after we left Gulf Islands NS and were headed to Everglades NP for my winter job. I think we are parked at Beverly Beach CG south of St Augustine

Here are a couple of pictures of my recovered rig.  I am the fellow that posted a reward for finding it after it was stolen with everything in it.  Because of the efforts of a great detective on the fraud department of the Arizona DMV, Jeff Fauffenbach, a fellow helicopter pilot, all the vehicles were recovered.  The contents from 30 years on the road are gone, but he got the vehicles back.

Glad to hear you got your rig back.  Was it in good condition when it was returned to you?

Just out of curiosity, what engine are you running and how happy are you with the way it hauls your stacker trailer?  How much does the stacker weigh when loaded?  What is the length of the trailer, looks like either a 24' or a 26'?

Mike.

Thanks Mike,  I am glad I got them back also.  The vehicles were all in good shape,  All the contents were gone.  It is amazing how much "stuff" you collect during 30 years of traveling on the road.  Every time I need something I think, "I got one of those...oops now I do not".  The list amounted to over $30,000 of items in the coach and stacker.  Another sad commentory on the recovery is that every person that was involved in this episode had to take thier pound of flesh.  As each dealer, (it was all dealers that bought the vehicles and had to return them), removed anything of value that they could.  I cannot differentiate between who took what, but it is clear that all took some.  As an example the six new Michilin tires and the two new spares on the stacker were gone.  They acutally swapped the tires on the trailer.  Batteries were taken, brake controller, virtually everything that could be removed was.  Here are a few interesting pictures of the interior of the stacker at the time it was taken.  The empty pictures are from when I got it, but that is also what it looks like when I recovered it.

The engine in the Country Coach Inspire is a Cummins 350.  It is OK but I do slow down on hills.  I am ok for now as I am not in a great hurry as long as it downshifts and pulls the hills.  I had no trouble on the Devore pass a few weeks ago.  My Company has agreed to get me either a new Essex or Magna as soon as they can.  Country Coach is now making a small number of coaches again.

The weight of the stacker is about 9,000 pounds empty and has a GVAR of 18,000 pounds.

The box is 28 feet and the overall length is 32 feet.

Yes that makes me 72 feet overall but I have never been stopped or had any trouble with the length.

Would the tags not have shown up that the vehicles were stolen?  Does this mean that if we were buying a used coach at a dealers it could actually be a stolen vehicle and/or RV?  Does it also mean the innocent buyer would lose the item and the money exchanged?
Title: Re: Photos of members' rigs
Post by: HueyPilotVN on September 26, 2012, 10:15:42 PM
The tags were removed, However when the new owners registered the vehicle the VIN number did alert the fraud investigator that the stolen vehicles were being transferred.  Three of the four vehicles were discovered before they were resold by the dealers.  The Stacker was auctioned off to a second dealer before it was recovered.  I do suppose that any of these could have been sold to a unsuspecting purchaser by any of the four dealers that bought them.  No one will give me any details of the sale other than I do know that my signature was forged on the titles that were in the coach.  All the titles were clear so there was no lein holder to complicate the transactions.  I really am amazed that four different dealers did not question the sales.  I also have no idea what the different dealers paid for the vehicles.  I think it must have been low enough for them to not question too closely the sales.  Very frustrating time, but I did eventually recover all the vehicles minus all the contents.  It is easier to steal a motorhome than it is to sell it and I think that posting the reward and description on this forum may have forced them to get rid of them.

We spent years camping in a 13 ft and had a lot of fun doing it too.

Don't have many inside pic's, except during construction.
I found two of the queen size bed/table that are under the 500KB size, but the flooring is not in yet on the date we took the pictures.

We have taken this camper all over the State (Michigan), and for just us two, it have been wonderful.

Most all of my pictures are 1.9MB or larger, this site only allows 500KB, and I don't know how to make a picture smaller for this site to accept. Any ideas would helpful as I would like to post more pictures.
(Edit) I googled on how to downsize an image, and did one of the Cupboards / Bath-Shower area.

Download a free software program called Photoscape here: http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php then install it on your computer. When You open it, a number of options will appear in a circle. The item at the top is edit. Click on that. Browse your files until you can find the pictures you want to resize and click on the photo and it will appear in the window. Then click "resize". Reduce the pixel size to 800 x 600 and save the new picture. You can post 800 x 600 easily and everyone can see them.

Good luck.

Just remember to save the resized photo with a different name (or at least in a different folder) unless you don't want to keep the original photo size.

Here's our very 1st RV we purchased in February from a wonderful couple who's health was declining.  They kept in in fabulous shape and we still keep in touch with them.  I also bought it for medical reasons.  I developed Lupus a year ago and needed an "out" from the house!  I can't tell you the positive THERAPY I get out of this mentally and physically !!!!  It's the best thing we've ever done.  I am obsessed with it and love to camp on the oceanfront and wake up to sunrise and the sound of the ocean.  I never knew RV'ing could be so much fun and relaxing.

Here's a photo of my 2003 Fleetwood Excursion out at Ocotillo Wells, CA.  I call this the "71 ft. of fun" when I connect to the 32ft Carson Racer to the 39ft RV. It's a good thing I can get to the desert and back without having to stop for fuel or supplies.

Looking forward to my first road trip out of the dirt and into the national parks this August!

Nice looking rig.  There is something about a large class A towing an enclosed trailer that really thrills me to see.  I love towing our trailer with the toys.

Thanks Mike, I found that the RV has a better (smoother) ride when I have the trailer connected.
I actually dropped off the RV at Redlands RV shop today to get the suspension upgraded, the exhaust system upgraded, and a power chip installed to gain 80hp I was told.  Should help me get up the grades going to El Mirage and up the 241 toll road.

I imagine that duel rear axle on your Monaco makes for a nice ride!

Title: Re: Photos of members' rigs
Post by: zmotorsports on July 09, 2013, 08:59:09 AM
Yes, the tag axle helps with the ride and gives me another 10k pounds work of CCC.  The tag axle was on my "needs" list when we upgraded from our previous coach.  I did notice one thing immediately going to our current coach from our previous 38' Beaver on a Gillig chassis.  That was when towing the trailer and getting into the small rollers on the road, the previous coach would porpoise a little bit whereas our current coach with the tag axle will not.  I can hit the rollers and feel the front end start to rise on the rollers but then the tag axle catches it and smoothes it right out never allowing that nose to rise much at all.  The ride is fantastic and the 10-bag Roadmaster semi-monocoque chassis is phenominal even in heavy crosswinds, whether towing the trailer or not.

Mike.

attached (hopefully is our RV - a 1991 Tioga) we purchased in late 1997, was only one previous owner, retired military. this pic was right after the new roof was installed early this year, new EPDM sheeting over 1/8" wood laminate to stregthen the existing wood. we love this rv, and plan on keeping it as long as possible. mostly short trips in the southwest, keeping it in Arizona, SoCal, Vegas and Northern Mexico for the most part.

I really was going to go around and take a pic the other way but didn't feel like putting on shoes. I'm going in today and opening up the bedroom slide so I'll take another picture. The reason it is like that is cuz we were afraid that the stairs would hit the concrete but we then learned that the stairs will stop if something is in the way.  ;D

When we ordered from the factory we didn't want any graphics since they fade and crack. We lovingly call it "The Big White Thing." When we pull into a campground we get all sorts of interesting looks.

Can I ask why are you using a tow dolly on a Jeep Wrangler? Haven't you read the Owner's Manual?

I agree with John, you don't want to tow it on a dolly unless you drop/remove the rear driveshaft.  They are meant to be towed four-down for a reason.  By having the rear axle and driveshaft turning and not the front driveshaft and axles even with the transfer case in neutral you end up with what is called viscous coupling and are basically shearing the fluid creating a lot of heat that will eventually damage transfer case components.

There are some two-wheel drive Wranglers (yes they do exist) that are ok to tow on a dolly but not the four-wheel drive version.  They are recommended to be towed four-down or on a trailer but not a dolly.

Mike.

I guess this member has never come back here to explain why he is towing this Jeep on the dolly. I have never seen anything like this when it comes to towing a Jeep. Not only is this not good for it but it looks silly.

As new members...we thought we'd attempt to join the party. Having "technical difficulties " with picture posting. Pictures "may" accompany this write- up.

As much of our rv'ing over the past 20 years has been fall/winter boondocking for hunting/fishing, as that is when my vacations were taken. Now retired, we may start doing some rv'ing in warm weather...with the rest of the rv'ers. This image shows us headed home after about 18 or 19 days elk hunting! Used plow on UTV to open a path to gravel road....truck "chained-up" for a little extra "bite".

https://imgur.com/K5pWRfR

The picture below is the morning after a pretty good snowfall while elk hunting.  I had to climb up on the roof with the broom to get the solar panels operational again.  It should be obvious by these photos that our RVing lifestyle is a little different than the average.

That is so awesome - but how do you keep things (like everything) from freezing?  Tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.  Was the rig designed for that kind of weather/camping?

Phil, We have a Teton Homes 5th wheel. We kind'a discovered the Tetons in '93, when we bought a '90 model. They were advertised/guaranteed to a -30 F. We lived in that old 1990 for 2 Wyoming winters while building our home. In those two winters we saw quite a few minus 30's and a little cooler. Since then, we've had several as technology improved....and they would get old enough for us to be able to buy a used one. They are a heavy unit, but well constructed. Teton, as well as several other quality high end manufacturers went under around 2007 to 2010. But, there are some well maintained used ones to be had. If you get bored....do a little computer research on the Tetons. They were good units

We hope to keep this '04 until we quite rv'ing/camping, as it pretty much has everything that we learned that we wanted in a camper through years of winter camping and trials and errors...six solar panels, six batteries, inverter, Bigfoot leveling, and hydraulic disc brakes. We just had the roof re-done ( FlexArmor) and several of the dual pane windows cleaned and resealed. We're hoping she'll make another 15 or 20 years!

We drew late season (December) elk tags, so I'm sure we'll see a few mornings below zero!
