Title: How can I lubricate my pop up lift system ?
Post by: JackL on August 13, 2017, 09:08:10 AM
We recently purchased a 2003 Coleman Taos pop up and the crank up roof system works very hard.
Is there any way to lubricate it or adjust it to make it work easier?

Back when my wife and I had one, we sprayed the support posts with WD-40.  Made a difference in ease of cranking.

LPS makes a spray lubricant specifically for cables; should not attract a bunch of gunk like other greases will.  Still, you have to be willing to crawl underneath.
I suggest you spray the lube on a lint-free cloth and wipe on.  There will be a couple of areas that will be accessible front and rear.  Then, run your lift all the way up and repeat; you will have to stabilize your trailer before raising the roof.

More than likely, the wiffletree needs to be lubed.  This is the part at the end of the crank that the cables attach to.  It is a long threaded shaft that gets sticky and rusty.  There is a youtube video on how to do so.  Lookup wiffletree lube.

I use a silicone spray on the cables, wheels underneath the trailer and on the cables in the roof supports.

WD40 brand makes a nice dry spray.
