Title: How many Christmas songs were written?
Post by: Tom on December 13, 2019, 09:50:40 AM
Rummaging through my music bookshelf at our place here in OH, I came across a 'Christmas Ukulele Fake Book' containing 412 songs. I had no idea that so many Christmas songs had been written  ??? Despite the name, it contains all scores, not just lead sheets.

My wife has collected more than a few Christmas albums.  I have stored most all of them in digital by now and last I looked, there were 48:45 in total.  That caused me to look at the list for repeats.  There were some.  So, I set it as a playlist and deleted the duplicates that I could actually find. that cut the playing time down to a little less than 45 hours.  This is without "Songs of the Season".

That is a lot.

Looks like the 'million Christmas songs' include a lot of arrangements of the same songs, but it says there are "180,660 unique songs" (still a lot).
