WINNEBAGO MODEL IDENTIFICATION: De-coding the Model Number

A common topic of discussion is how to interpret the model identification for a specific Winnebago Industries, Inc. motor home. The use of letters and numbers is not really a secret code; they have a specific meaning when identifying one of our vehicles. The following chart helps to explain model identifications for the last ten years of Winnebago Industries, Inc. products. For example, a WKR40TD is a 40-foot Winnebago Tour on a Freightliner chassis. For the most part, the characters used in the first four positions of our model identifications have stayed consistent. The fifth position may have one or two characters, and identifies the floor plan configuration. These model identifications reflect standard equipment, and options such as chassis selection may vary with an individual coach. Your model identification can be found on your coach's certification label as shown in the example below.

FIRST CHARACTER = Division:
W = Winnebago
I = Itasca
U = Ultimate
R = Rialta

SECOND CHARACTER = Chassis Manufacturer:
C = Chevrolet
D = Dodge Sprinter
F = Ford
K = Freightliner
P = Workhorse
S = Spartan
V = Volkswagen

THIRD CHARACTER = Model Type:
1 = 100 Series H-Body Eurovan Camper
2 = 200 Series C-Body Access/lmpulse/RialtalVista/Sunstar
3 = 300 Series C-Body Minnie/Outlook/Spirit
4 = 400 Series C-Body Minnie Winnie/Sundancer
5 = 500 Series C-Body View/Navion
7 = 700 Series C-Body Aspect/Cambria
D = D-Series Sightseer/Sunova
E = E-Series Vista/Sunstar
F = F-Series BravelVoyage/Sunrise
G = G-Series Adventurer/Suncruiser (prior to 2009)
J = J-Series Adventurer (2009)
K = K-Series Suncruiser (2009)
L = L-Series Chieftain/Sunflyer
M = M-Series Destination/Latitude
P = P-Series Journey/Meridian/Horizon
Q = Q-Series Ultimate Advantage/Ultimate Freedom R-Series Tour/Ellipse
S = S-Series Vectra/Horizon

FOURTH CHARACTER = Indicates the approximate length of the motor home

FIFTH CHARACTER = Floorplan

ON THE COACH CERTIFICATION LABEL IS:

Bob - great idea!  I'll start putting that together.

Diagrams or layout for TV coax cable inside an RV, also possible diagram of the "studs" locations in the walls.  Location of
"studs" would aid when trying to hang an object on the wall, be it permanent or temporarily.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

The wiring diagrams do have the coax runs (and speaker wiring, etc.) shown - extremely handy at times for those of us that like to tinker.

It has been a while since I have looked over the diagrams - I'm not sure if they show the wall framework or not.  If you happen to look at your unit when it is cold (and humid) outside and warm inside the unit, you can easily see the outline where the insulation is not as good, i.e., a structural member is present due to condensation on the outside wall.

I know many have called Winnebago owner relations with those kinds of questions and the techs do a very good job of coming up with good answers.

thanks for the listing...having purchased a 2004 Brave a while back I was doing the lazy man's pursuit of chassis manuals (i.e. not much). your links led me right to the site i needed to get manual. :)

Did note one oops  :( in your listing

Q = Q-Series Ultimate Advantage/Ultimate Freedom R-Series Tour/Ellipse

Note that the numeral 6 is missing for the Ford F550 super chassis for class A motorhomes. The Ford VIN interpreter site did lead to correct manuals.

Nice of you to do that John. As much as I hang out on the Winnebago site I have never once gone into the "service tips" and WOW what an informative section! I highly recommend anyone who has a minute check that section out, lots of great tips & info!

   5 = 1995   A = 2000   F = 2005
   6 = 1996   B = 2001   G = 2006
   7 = 1997   C = 2003   H = 2007
   8 = 1998   D = 2004   J = 2008
   9 = 1999   E = 2005   K = 2009

No digit for 2002 models listed.  B=2001 and C=2003.
E and F both show 2005.
Suspect C is 2002, D is 2003 and E is 2004, but thought
you might want to correct the post.  Regards.

Any resources that go back to 1989?  I'm having issues getting anything diagram/wiring/etc for my 1989 Chieftain.

Winnebago was on a mission to digitize and put up older documents/diagrams but it appears they have stopped at model year 1990,  I'll check and see what the plans are.  You might be able to get them to manually copy/email/snail mail something for you.

John; I understand that Winnebago also has a web site that, 1) you can look up a list of all Winnebago part# in your coach,  2) a site that you can look up the service/repair history of your unit. I don't know the sites but have heard of them. If you have/can get this info it'd be great.  Thanks Dana

Never heard of that resource being made available to the general public by Winnebago

John: Dealer mentioned a site (no info though) that the owner can see what service/repairs had been done to their unit. Not as extensive as the one a dealer can look at though according to the dealer I talked to.

Hi John, I have a 2000 Ultimate Freedom. There aren't many Ultimates on the road, I think they were built between 1999 and mid 2004. They are on a Spartan MM  GT chassis, if you want to include a link in your already extensive list.

Also a request on behalf of Brave Owners.
Forums are critical to all RV owners and this is the best of the best. There is a FaceBook Group similar to your link for "Classic Winnebagos".
I don't think FaceBook will ever be able to replace a good Web based forum, but it is a cool place to post rig pictures and exchange ideas.
There is such a group for Brave owners "old and new retro" and the "btween" braves.

This group is open to ALL Winnebago Brave Owners

The link is

Yeah, that's very progressive of Winnie to sell parts online through their storefront and also through Amazon.  I'll put those links up - thanks for the info.

Note:  It is a limited selection of parts at this time, hopefully it will become more comprehensive as time goes by.  Also note there are no HWH parts listed, only Powergear and Lippert.  HWH will not allow Winnebago to stock their parts for some reason.

That's great.  Wouldn't putting surplus store on line be great?  Now that is progressive.
