Title: 2013 LED Lighting Discount at rvledbulbs.com
Post by: Gary RV_Wizard on January 02, 2013, 08:45:37 AM
I've been talking with Brian Skone at RVledbulbs.com and he has agreed to offer a 10% discount on Led lighting to RVForum members for 2013 and 2014 too. To get the discount, enter FORUM in the promotion box at Checkout. You also get free shipping on all orders over $100.

RVledbulbs.com is a sponsor of this forum and their contribution helps make this site free. They are a reputable business that will go the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied with your purchase. I've done business with them and the parent company [The Hitching Post of Ocala, FL] for many years and can highly recommend both.

Wish I had known about the discount.. Ohwell. Anyway I have purchased several lights from them and have been extremely pleased. Replaced the lights over the beds with the single light dimmable units. Really great. The real winner is the unit I installed in my bathroom that is upgradable to have the motion detector. Open the door and on it comes. No fumbling for a light switch. Awesome.

Brian tells me that quite a few people took advantage of the 2012 discount offer, which was a tidy 15%. There were  several purchases from forum members as late as Dec 30th. The new discount offer isn't quite as generous, but it's still a nice perk for RV Forum members.

The folks at the Hitching Post of Ocala (http://www.ocalahitch.com/) will also assist if you have a problem with any other product they sell or service, e.g. Blue Ox, Aquahot, Brake Buddy, etc.  Whether you bought it there or not.

Sorry for the late response, but I think the answer is yes.

Are the LED lights as bright as the ones that came on the rig?

Insufficient data to give an answer.  What came on the rig? And what led were they replaced with?

I will have to go look to be sure.  They are the wedge type bulbs, but I don't know how many lumens they are.

Just ordered a couple for my Aliner, received the 10% discount.  Looking forward to switching to LED, especially moving to solar in the very near future.  Thanks Gary for your efforts to make the discount happen.

Kudos to RVLED. I just ordered and replaced the  reading light bulbs with their 220 LED warm white lights.
Quick efficient delivery but with the first group having two broken (still in package) indicators. Call to them was answered quickly and replacement lights were immediately sent out.
Good lamps, great service.

I've known the folks at Hitching Post of Ocala (parent of RVledlights.com) for many years - they have taken care of my hitch and tow bar needs since around 1995. It's a family run business that still takes care of customers the old-fashioned way. By the way, they also handle some RV system repairs, e.g. Aquahot and Splendide washer/dryers, and can rebuild Blue Ox tow bars as well.

Indeed, I ordered last night and noticed in checking my e-mail this morning they have already been shipped.

Just a note...

Ordered four of the 1141 300 Lumen bulbs back when Gary first informed us of them being available.  Have used them in various places throughout the TT and they work great so far.  Both outside in the porch fixture and inside.  I am going to order four more when done with this post.

Gary, thanks for the help and the heads up!

Do you have to replace the entire light fixture to switch to LED?  Or just the bulbs? Our lights seem to run way too hot.
Title: Re: 2013 LED Lighting Discount at rvledbulbs.com

Just the bulbs.  Make sure the LEDs have the right base by matching them to the bulb you're replacing and they just plug in.

If you're upgrading a fluorescent fixture to LEDs you do have to bypass the fluorescent ballast.  But replacing incandescent bulbs is just a matter of unplugging the old bulb and plugging in the replacement.

On my light fixtures, I was able to replace just the bulbs and keep the original light fixtures.  The attached photo shows an original "hot" bulb on one side and an LED replacement bulb on the other side.

Just installed LED lights in the 5'er.  Little shipping problem, but Jay at RVLEDBbulbs, got it straighten out.
Appreciated the discount offer to the forum.
WOW, talk about lighting up your world.   Too bad the rig is going into storage in a couple of days.  Like to try them out to see how they are going to work.  May be too bright in a couple of places, like over the bed for reading.

I have seen light intensity listed on led bulbs. Just compare with bulbs you are using. I am about ready to make the conversion.

I don't expect any change for 2014, but will ask owner Brian Skone to verify that.

Update: Brian confirms that the 10% discount will be available in 2014.

Thanks Gary.  I didn't really think there would be a change.  And please let Brian know we all appreciate the 10% discount all the same.  I know I will be placing another order sometime during the Winter getting ready for the next camping season.

Off thread, I know.  But how do you become "certified" to become old people?  Some kind of paperwork you need to get through the Pearly Gates?  I forgot my passport once....just wondering.   ;)

As I recall, and I don't do that too well anymore, I had to be voted in by a bunch of other old people.  Fortunately, the vote was unanimous.

Just bought from them and they are great and they did a good job of educating me about LED's for MH.  I received a good lumens education. They also gave me the 10% discount.  Will buy from them again for sure.

We bought from them and changed out all of our regular bulbs with the LED bulbs.  A lot better and couldn't be happier with the service or the 10% discount.  Thanks for the tip about them Gary.

the trouble with led (example G4 series) is there(decent ones) about 8-9$ each.I have 46 in my ceiling.I don't use my ceiling lights enough to justify $500 worth of bulbs to replace my existing ones which work fine

I put in about 45 G4's a year or two ago and paid about $1.00 per unit.  They were the cheapies from Hong Kong on eBay.  Still working fine.  They don't have the same circuitry as the expensive ones, but they work and you can buy a few spares and still save a ton of money.
Title: Re: 2013 LED Lighting Discount at rvledbulbs.com
Post by: Gary RV_Wizard on June 12, 2014, 04:00:21 PM
Whether the cheaper bulbs work ok or not depends a lot of the quality of the power available where they are used. The better quality (and higher priced) bulbs have circuitry to compensate for low and high voltage, for lots of ac (alternating current) ripple in the 12vdc. Battery current is clean but often low as the battery discharges or other devices go on and off. When the RV is plugged to shore power, the converter produces the 12v and many of them provide very "dirty" power, especially the old Magnetec 63xx series and its competitors. High voltage can be as bad as low voltage too.

Outfits like Revolution and Ming distribute only the best quality and they back the product 100%. Others may be anywhere from crap to nearly as good.  I know the folks at rvledbulbs.com have tested a variety of off-label Chinese imports and they offer those that performed reasonable well as a lower priced alternative to the Revs and Mings. I've used a few with decent results. Your mileage may vary, but rest assured that rvledbulbs.com will back anything they sold.  I've been doing business with the parent company (ocalahitch.com) since 1996 and know them to be fair and reliable.

What would be best ones to have alot more light inside a 97 Bounder 32H motorhome. I have looked over several but not sure of ones I need. I want ones that really light up, but won't melt my lenses :) I have 1141 bulbs now....

Agreed, threads do die. The staff here are managing a BIG forum. They can't always keep up.

RVLed's did give me the discount in December/14 when I converted our current trailer. That was just over a month ago. Chances are good that they are still following through. Give them a call to confirm. However, even if they don't give you a discount, they are still a wonderful group of people to deal with.

The forum discount and other benefits are still available.

We made the this topic a "sticky" (the highlighting is part of that) so it always stays visible near the top of the topic list. Of course, a poke ("bump", in net jargon) also puts it on the Recent/Unread lists as well.
Title: LED bulbs
Post by: MikeFromMesa on January 30, 2015, 12:09:02 PM
I generally tend to shop at Amazon and recently bought a box of 10 led bulbs from them for my RV to replace the 1141 bulbs that came with the unit. I did this to reduce the load on the house battery when we are dry camping (which we do fairly frequently) but I don't really know how much of a difference there is between the normal incandescent bulbs and the LED bulbs. Does anyone have any figures?

I did not mean to hijack this thread so if I have done so, my apologies. I just thought this thread had transformed into an LED discussion so my question seemed appropriate.

In general, an LED uses about 10% of the amps of an incandescent bulb for a similar amount of light (lumens). For more on this and many other facts about LED lighting for Rvs, please see the LED lighting article I have placed in the RVForum Library.

thank you for the response. A 90% saving seems like it is well worth the cost of the LEDs, especially since my Class B is limited to only a single house battery and everything is electronic. If I lose the battery I also lose the refrigerator.
