Not much in the way of weeds. A few small tractors sitting out in front of the rig right now. Looks like they may be starting to landscape that area. The dog park looks great!

We've got high weeds next to R-56, but that wide concrete slab is wonderful after tracking in gravel for the first three days.

We have met several couples this week at the FMCA 4 wheeling group who will be at Portal next week and I've invited them to join our group. They seemed interested even after I told them of our antics. Hopefully they will come on line and " register" their names. Welcome newbies,

Ardra if I recall we meet at the Portal Pavillion on Sunday at 4 pm to finalize the weekly agenda right?

Big snow on the high passes between here and Durango today... Hope it gets warmer quickly... Probably gonna freeze tonight, not a hard freeze but a freeze. ugh.

There's a good chance, given the forecast for rain tomorrow, that we'll not make it that early due to snow in the high country. Of course if that doesn't materialize, we expect to be there mid-afternoon.

They dropped our chance of showers down to 30% this afternoon ending early evening with tomorrow looking lovely. So those of you here in Cortez or heading thru Durango and Cortez should be in good shape. Those of you up on I-70 may have a problem, or not, after all, it is Colorado where the weather delights in being changable

Everybody comes to the Happy Hour to say what they want to do, then we put it on a schedule. It is a sort of group discussion and introductions of members.

I am thinking of doing a 4 wheel drive tomorrow instead of the hike. I have the trail sheet from the FMCA rally last week. There are 4 runs rated at 2.5. Anyone interested? Let me know or come by my site R47.

OK group! There has been some good interest so here is the plan for tomorrow, if you are interested. We are going to start with and easy scenic trail called "Onion Creek". It's rated as an easy trail in the Moab Back Roads travel guide. We are lining up on the road by the office at 0900 sharp. Please be fueled up and bring a lunch and a chair to sit on later. We will use FRS radio's for communications, and if you don't have one, someone will lend you one.

PS: the hike group is still on, so don't feel like you have to attend the trail ride.

Dean and Linda Stock are on way to Alaska so will not be attending Moab this year. Linda told me Dean forgot to cancel. He canceled with Portal and forgot to tell us! She said to tell us to have a good time.

America the Beautiful Pass - FWIW, anyone (even Canadians) can buy the pass for $80 (U.S.). It's good for everyone in your car except in parks that charge by person where it gets 4 people in. So, if you crazy Canadians take your Mesa Verde receipt up to Arches NP, they will apply the $25 toward the $80 annual ATB Pass.

Our first happy hour was today. We started with introductions and then we tried to plan our week. This year we seem to have fewer hikers so we're changing as we get a better idea of people's interests. Here's what is planned now - maybe!

VERY TENTATIVE CALENDAR RV FORUM MOAB RALLY MAY 13-19, 2012

Sunday, May 13 –Arrive at Portal
Happy hour and get-acquainted at 4:00 p.m.

Monday, May 14 – Easy hike in Arches (Park Avenue). Line up at 10:00 a.m.
   Onion 4WD trail led by Sarge. Line up at 9:00 a.m.

Tuesday, May 15 – Negro Bill Canyon hike. Line up at 9:00 a.m.

Wednesday, May 16 – A hike to be decided (Delicate Arch?).

Thursday, May 17 – 4WD trail?
   Bar M Chuckwagon dinner & entertainment. Be there at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, May 18 – Corona Arch hike?
   Portal RV Park dinner & band

Saturday, May 19 – 4WD trail?
“Last Supper” at Sunset Grill or elsewhere

Sunday, May 20 – Leave Moab.

One thing we learn for sure on RVForum rallies is FLEXIBILITY. After a great happy hour introduction meeting, as Ardra mentioned, new/ additional plans can emerge proving that all one needs to do is to speak up and plans can evolve toward your desires .

We still have "missing participants" to join in and hope they are on the way.

Moab 101, hosted by the Fitzgerald's this morning - great hike down Park Avenue...the crippled, lame, and lazy were all in attendance!

Well the Dirty Dozen ( 12 4x4 vehicles) made it a back to Portal at 3:30 after fuel ups. A few took a short cut home after lunch, a few went to the Moab Outpost for Parts!

The trail was dusty dusty and dusty. It had also been graded so was very doable for all vehicles. Photos after Social Hour. Incredible scenery, great company, good mapping, PERFECT weather .
