Does anyone use an Internet faxing service?
« on: November 05, 2011, 10:35:44 AM »
I'd like to have the ability to fax from my laptop by using the internet, not a fax modem.  My DW is handling affairs for her mother & we are finding instances of companies that require papers to be faxed or mailed to them.  I thought faxing went out with VCR and the Walkman, replaced by scanning to PDFs & e-mailing, or working through secure websites, but no.   :o

I've found several Internet faxing services but they all seem to want a setup fee & a monthly subscription fee.  I'd like to find one for an occasional user where I could pay for my use but it has to be reliable.  Does anyone use or know of such a service?

I've used MaxEmail for years.  The cost is $14.85/year, free to receive (I believe) and $.05-.10/page to send.  I'm not positive about the rates, but they're close.  Check the www.maxemail.com web site for details.

I used MaxEmail as Ned suggested for the very purpose you have.  It served me so well that I have continued it.  Quite often I have found someone needs to send me a FAX and it is quick and easy.

Good luck in settling affairs.  It is a time consuming job with lots of details.

I use Fax-it-nice, which has no annual or monthly for the casual user but the send and receive fees are higher than MaxEmail. It all depends on how much you fax and how often. Frequent faxers will often benefit from the lower rates that come with a monthly fee account. Choose a type of plan that works for you, or for those who fax rarely, there are one-time charge rates too.

I find I spend well under $20/year, even though we typically send or receive a fax every 4-6 weeks.

Ned, Betty, Gary & George,

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I knew someone in the Forum family must be using an internet faxing service.  These sound exactly like what I'm looking for.

Betty, you are absolutely right.  I handled my mother's affairs several years ago while I was still working, had things like faxing available to me & everything was local.  Now we're working at a distance and in the next few months the distance will be much greater.

I use myfax.com for my business fax line.  Cost $10 per month.   I think it's worth the money.  Have not had a problem in three years of service.

I use www.faxinating.com, the big difference with the rest providers is that you pay as you go, so you only pay for your fax, I found it very useful because I don't need to send a fax very often...prices and support are excellent.
