Water filter orientation
« on: April 02, 2012, 12:57:04 AM »
I am trying to make more roomin the undersink area of the galley ina 2012 WGO View 24 J. I want to take the cold water filter and mount it horizontally instead of the factory vertical installation. Does anyone know of any issues with doing this?

Assuming it's the typical carbon cannister type, I would not expect any problems with orientation. They depends only on the direction of water flow.

How will you change the filter element? It will dump all the water when you open it to change the element. Big mess under the sink.

Just takes a dishpan under the filter when swapping. And if its an inline cannister instead of the cartridge type, it won't make much difference anyway.

Our RO system has been laying down for the last 6 years without any problems, as far as changing them just leave enough tubing so you can take it out of the cabinet when it's time to change the filters.

Has anyone had any issues with air pockets in a sideways filter?  When it's hanging vertically the inlet and outlet are both on top, so any air quickly bleeds out.

Mount the filter sideways and the intake/outlet are at the midway point.   Theoretically at least you could have an air pocket leaving the upper half of the filter dry.

Another potential problem may be stress on the housing that the filter mounts to as it may be designed to support the filter in a vertical position only. When the filter is full of water is is fairly heavy.
Just my 2 cents.
