Bummed about INS

Call your insurance adjuster and give him the opportunity to rethink his decision before you call your state “Banking and Insurance Commissioner” Have the Commissioner’s name handy. I’m sure the will adjuster will change his mind but if he refuses to, then report it to your Commissioner. Some states have the insurance regulated under the “Attorney General’s Office” so do a little research and know what you are talking about.
There are a lot of good insurance companies and they would have paid a glass clam without using an adjuster.
I think we should all take a look at our policy’s, we give a lot of money to the insurance companies.

As a licensed insurance agent, I believe this to be the best advice of the bunch. The Insurance Commissioner in every state has a department to protect consumers, and that dept. tracks the complaints on every company; hence a rating. Every insurance company wants a good rating, but they also grade/pay their claims adjusters on their "loss" record, ie; what have they saved the company. That being said, the company also does not want a bad reputation for "Flo".
My recommendations would be the letter from the Attorney, on his/her letterhead, addressed to the following:
The Claims Department
The Home Office/Management
The Office of State Insurance Commissioner
AND the letter should include the demand for restitution of a legal fees incurred in pursuing this claim.

Not necessarily true for all companies. My wife and other members of my family were adjusters and were paid a straight salary, no bonuses for not paying and the pressure was to close claims.

Progerssive is one of the worst insurers around. [Additional politically-oriented commentary removed by moderator]

We have had a glass claim (no adjuster) and a hit-run sideswipe claim which Progessive has handled okay, to date. At one point I did have to call a supervisor when things got tangled up, but it worked out. Reps are now calling me regularly to see if the last little things are going well.

Our son is an adjuster for AAA and previous to that an adjuster for Farmers. Neither of those companies paid him any incentive to deny claims.
